A 2004 Healdsburg High School graduate who crashed her car and died just a day after returning home from college had a blood-alcohol level of 0.25, more than three times the level at which it is legal to drive in California, the Sonoma County coroner's office said.
Elena Xochitl "Xochie" Snedden, 21, had recently finished her junior year at Colorado State University, where she once planned to pursue veterinary medicine. But she had changed her major the previous year and was moving home to attend Santa Rosa Junior College while she set a new course for her future, said her mother, Elisa Snedden.
A lifelong athlete and once-budding ballerina, Snedden drove home from Colorado without stopping, arriving home early on the morning of June 28.
That night, she went out with a friend and was driving home on Old Redwood Highway shortly after 4 a.m. June 29 when she lost control of her Toyota Rav4 about a half-mile south of Limerick Lane and slammed into a power pole, authorities said.
