"Pat Buchanan deplores what he calls America's ‘national guilt over racism.'"

By committing to "cleanse itself from all taints of racism and xenophobia," Buchanan quotes Brimelow, the "U.S. political elite" eventually "enacted the epochal Immigration Act of 1965," which did away with a quota system based on national origins that favored European immigration.

Brimelow, an English immigrant who runs VDARE, a website filled with white supremacist and anti-Semitic material, has called the Pioneer Fund, a foundation that has backed racial eugenics research, a "perfectly respectable institution." Buchanan writes a regular column for VDARE, for which Tom Tancredo has also written.

In the acknowledgments section of State of Emergency, Buchanan singles out the late Sam Francis (who edited the white supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens' paper, The Citizens Informer) and Brimelow as the vanguard of the anti-immigration movement. And while he praises the leaders of the anti-immigrant think tank infrastructure, such as Roy Beck of NumbersUSA, Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies and Dan Stein of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), he cites a slew of VDARE columnists in the book and thanks James Fulford of VDARE for help with the manuscript.

The racist roots of the anti-immigration movement run deep. In his important study of American immigration politics up to the 1920's, Strangers in the Land, John Higham identifies two broad strains of anti-immigrant racial supremacism, one based on culture and the other, with the rise of Social Darwinism, based on heredity and genetics. These trends now seem to be converging, and are being mainstreamed into the American media through Buchanan's high visibility.

More Spanish publications available locally

Two more Spanish newspapers are available in Hazleton, a reflection of the city’s growing Spanish-speaking population.

Ahora and El Periodiquito were distributed for free in newsstands and stores around Hazleton for the past month, said Amilcar Arroyo, editor of Hazleton’s oldest Spanish newspaper, El Mensajero.
El Periodiquito contains a local editorial in its first edition, plus features about entertainers, recipes, color comics and news about Social Security, U.S. elections, Latin American leaders and New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.
Editor Cesar Ludena wasn’t in the office at 410 E. Diamond Ave.– also the office of Michael’s Taxi – to talk about El Periodiquito on Tuesday afternoon nor did he telephone later.
Earlier, Ludena denied publishing a newspaper when questioned by a city code officer, Robert Dougherty, Hazleton’s director of public works, said Tuesday.
Dougherty said Ludena lacks a business permit for a newspaper so a citation was filed.
“Ahora” means “now” and is published at 132 W. Allegheny Ave., Philadelphia, but carries advertisements from Hazleton businesses. Articles in the December edition are about fashion, food, entertainment, travel and horoscopes.
Two pages contain sexually suggestive photos that made Arroyo question whether Ahora should be placed in stores where children can take copies.
“Let’s put this kind of publication in a special place with limitations like a ‘Playboy’ or ‘Penthouse,’ not free for everyone,” Arroyo said.
Five years ago, Arroyo began publishing El Mensajero, which is now put out twice a month by the Wilkes-Barre Publishing Co., the parent corporation of The Times Leader.
As editor, Arroyo continues to write editorials and articles such as an interview with Mayor Lou Barletta about immigration in the current edition and report on the speech of former Mexican President Vicente Fox in Wilkes-Barre in the previous edition.
A publication called Panorama Latin News circulated in Hazleton for approximately the past three years.
Panorama Latin News, which lists a post office box in Palmerton as its address, is separate from Panorama Magazine, the longtime monthly published in Hazleton in English.
According to the 2000 Census, Hazleton had 1,132 Hispanic residents, but their numbers are growing according to most accounts. In the Hazleton Area School District, for example, 1,021 students studied English as a second language as of May 2007, and most of those students speak Spanish as their first language.
The history of non-English newspapers in Hazleton dates to at least 1873 when the Hazleton Volksblatt was printed in German. Another German newspaper, the Hazleton Journal, started in 1876.
Italian newpapers Il Trentino appeared in 1911 and L’ Unione Italiana came out in 1920.

"Italians are jealous of Lations"

If by this is meant Mexicans or South Americans, etc. then I don't get it. Mexicans for one, are not latins. Italians are. I've got dozens of Italian friends and been under hundreds of others, I never hears of this "jealousy."

Hi-Me, who is a racist piece of sh!t, is known for his jealousy of Americans, who are his betters. He hasn't the stones to get out and DO anything, so he copies and pastes on these boards. He WISHES he was good enough to be an American. He WISHES he was good enough to be an American of Italian descent. He's scum under the feet of all other nationalities and he knows it...we do too.

He made threats to rape me a year or so ago on here, which is why I refer to him as a rapist. He's not a real man. He's not even a boy. He's a disgusting animal who will, hopefully, be road kill soon.

lately there has been some comfusion of the world latin or latino. hispanic means of spanish decent in the americas only. latino means of latin american decent. because most latin americans are of spanish decent the government acknolowged latin americans as latins not the europeans. as i already said most countries in latin american are of spanish influence, so they adopeted latino, only spanish speaking latin american countries are latino or hispanic. latin american countries can be latin american but not latino or latin since the spanish speaking countries have adopted this term now. european countries can't be any not even spain since they are not in latin america and hispanic means of spanish colonization not spain. some call themselves latin not latino but i would like to politely correct this. latin was formed to show similarity of the european countries colonizing the new world to seperate themeselves form the british colonies this is how latin became a culture. the language of those countries came from the language latin but that's it and the new difenition has nothing to do with that. i mean the americans were colonized by england and they don't call themselves british or european for that matter, they actually speak english but they don't call our selves english or british that's part of hisroy they are now american or nort american. the latin tribes don't exist any more we're in a new century so not even itlaians can call themselves latins, the language latin isn't used any more only in the vatican but that is a language over there not a culture, everyone over there belongs to the human race which is the best race. in that case they also call themselves latin because they were conquered by the romans, that was a long time ago and in that case why aren't the german, irish, and british latin then since there countries and all of europe were conquered by the romans not just a few countries. also those languges aren't the only languages that were influnced by latin there are millions more that don't call themselves latin. honestly and respectfully if it wasn't for latin america the ethnic group which is "latin" wouldn't exist since befor that time wasn't used. as i said it is wasn't even a correct term because those aren't the only latin based languages there are more and other latin based languages colonized in the americas in that time. that's it i don't want to offend anyone that's just what i've learned doing research. the NEW terms latino, latin, and hispanic have nothing to do with europe or any other part of the world that isn't latin amreica.

i wan't to clarify somthing else. some parts of america were colonized by france, spain, portugal........ you get it. anyways why aren't they part of latin america? the answer is simple because they are now part of a new country america and canada mainly which aren't lain, latino, or nispanic. rome itself now speakes italian not latin and some countries in europe were formed into that different countries which have nothing to do with the ancient latin tribe or the romans, not even italians can call themselves latin. you should be proud of what you are now not what your country was part of or was. like i said americans don't call themselves latinos or hispanics because florida for example was a spanish colony, they are americans. italians are italians. portuguese are portuguese. french are french. they do belong to an ethnic group but it's not latin it's european. again i don't want to be offend anyone but it's offending to latinos when eurpeans or others call themselves latinos or latin when they're not.

first off if your gonna say brazilians are latinos and not italians then you are blind how you gonna take something that started in italy and claim it for yourself? think before you speak cuz brazilians have a italian heritage in them besides just cuz you speak spainish doesnt make you latin , there are Africans who speak french would you say that they are french? your in deception get some knowledge and understanding

there are way to many people who claim something there not i feel all cultures are beautiful and its like for example a puerto rican who is identified as latinos which has African spainsh and taino which is italian its a preference who they want to go by there is way to much racism people want to hold on to either one culture and deny there other heritage which is wrong i know whats its like i have it within my own family the claim one and deny the other but i can say im not gonna have my family grow up in ignorance there gonna except both cultures equally , plus the problem is that this country wants to label everyone like call italians white now tell me now can italians be white considering they went thru lynchings back in the late 1800s? if they were white would they have been? umm no they got treated second to the blacks i just wish people would do there history and not be so stupid the blind leads the blind so foolish anyways peace
