I would like to once and for all, ask for a direct and correct answer as to what is required of residents in order to rebuild or replace utilities in order to have heat and hot water. I have been without heat and hot water since October 28 when the town shut us down as a precaution to Sandy.

Many many directives have been circulating and no one has a real answer. I would like to get heat and hot water in my home but want a correct and accurate answer as to what is required. A blanket ruling should not be applied as each home had different circumstances. Please give specific directives so that we residents can begin our lives over and get back in our homes. Thank you

I went to a rebuilding meeting at Middletown High school. Several Union Beach Councilman and the building inspector from UB were also in attendance. We were told there are new fema regulations and we need to contact our townhall for a building assessment. I have called and left a message and sent an email to the building dept and have had no reply. I understand everyone is very busy now, but Union Beach needs to hold there own meeting or post more information on their website. I appreciate all the town has done but we need more information so we can go home. Thank you.

I went to town hall meetings back in 2012 and 2013. Continued to get a run around. Spent many hours with FEMA representatives, still conflicting directives. I took matters into my own hands and began with the grant. I had them put in writing what I needed to do and did it. When I would follow a directive given to me and I did it, it was wrong. Things changed I was told. I stopped listening to all of them. As long as I had it in writing, I felt I was safe. It took almost two years, but my house is complete and I am back in. It was absolutely awful how people of Union Beach were tossed around and led down so many wrong paths when all anyone wanted was to do what was required and get back in their homes. There are still people out of their homes and I don't understand why that is. So many left Union Beach due to the constant and never ending red tape. I understand that because I was about to be one of t hem. When a disaster hits, they shouldn't make people jump through hoops to resume their lives. They wanted to get started, do what the town and FEMA required, but no one gave the same or straight answer. Our guidelines were based on the people that ripped off FEMA during Katrina. I was told that verbally in person directed to me. That was wrong, we were compared to Katrina residents who were given the financial aid and took off.

Need a better smooth running system and people that know what they are talking about in order to give directives. But I still wish those who are still struggling, good luck.
