I am so tired of paying for every piece of nogood nonworking sorry goodfornothing to have three square meals a day. Anybody else feel that way? I was in the grocery store tonight and a lady and her teen daughter were loading up. I know its thanksgiving but let me tell you what she bought with OUR money. She had a turkey, two whole hams, three pints of oysters, two huge pkgs of chicken breasts,a huge whole pork loin, about ten pounds of frozen butterbeans, a readymade cheesecake and to top it all off was four tbones which looked as if they weighed about three pounds each. Guess how she paid for that 279 dollars worth of food? Yep. That little card with the two peaches on it. She will didn't have enough on her card so the teen pulled hers out to finish it up. I am totally disgusted. I work hard for my money and never eat steak oysters or cheesecake cause I can't afford it.then I see that I am feeding this scum good food with my money. We have to stop this.

The hard part is how do we decide who may get these hand outs. The ones who have never worked or the ones who have worked and due to economic times have lost their jobs of 20 plus years & are over qualified for the jobs they have applied for or our seniors who worked and saved for retirement to have it taken away with the fall of world com, and te crash of wall street that has put them into this situation and are too old to get a job. There are also some who have worked most of their lives to have an illness take over them and they can not work. I do agree with you but who will we decide to help.

I am a single mother of two. I have had the same job for 20 years. I have never asked for any kind of assistance until recently when my work hours were reduced. I was told if I would be willing to quit my job then I could be supported well, but otherwise I qualified for nothing. What kind of message would that have been for my kids? I had to swallow my pride to apply for food stamps at all and to be encouraged to quit my job just absolutely blew my mind. These services should be a helping hand, not a way of life.

Number one they need to be drug tested. That will take care of a lot. Their are people that will walk up to you that have food cards and say let me pay for your food with my card and you give me the cash. We need help can not get any.

... people georgia has an 11% unemployment rate. "this doesnt count the people on SSI and disability..." so that means 1.1 our of 10 people in georgia dont have a job... so if we take the 10 million people in georgia 1 million dont have jobs... this isn't the fault of the people its the fault of the job market.... so stop bitching

It is not the fault of the job market that crazy whores have a buch of children that they can't afford and to whom they have no fathers for. Maybe they should learn to keep their legs closed until they get a job. The job market did not tell them to spread their legs. You must be one of those that have a heap of children that you can't support. When I go to the hospital to have a baby I have to make monthly payments. When someone with three or four children go to the hospital they leave debt free. Does that sound like "the job market" to you. Better yet, someone with all of those children can go to college scott-free. Yet someone who kept a full-time job and did not have children before marriage and did not have children whom I could not afford has to pay to go to college. Does that sound like the "job market to you. You must be one of those low-life, deadbeat dads yourself. How about you get a job and support your own children so all of us taxpayers don;t have to.

Does it really matter how she paid for her groceries? I mean, at least she had real food in her cart and not frozen pizzas and other processed foods.

If she is able to work, and does not care to do so... then hell yeah it matters! Im with "so sadd" on most of what he said. Welfare was to only be a temporary system of help offered to jobless people. So sorry ppl who CAN work but choose NOT to is the ones i have problems with. Half do not care to even look for a job when the govt is supporting them with OUR money!

Well, that's the million dollar question, isn't it? Is she able to work and choose not to or does she have a job and needs assistance?

More like billons of dollars!! More than likely she is able as most are. The one who cant are on disability and are not able too, those people normally have a visible element. Walks with can, limp, wheel chair or is mentally disabled.(this is not all inclusive) There was no indication in the posters words of this. Bleeding heart liberals will be the death of America!

This person had no visible disabilities but that doesn't mean she didn't have any. My problem isn't with the elderly, disabled, sick, or out of work people. It's with the ones who choose not to work and live off the rest of us. What I took and still take issue with is the fact that I saw with my own eyes the quality and volume of food she was purchasing. I can't afford to buy steak like that nor oysters. She is obviously not feeding only herself and her husband with the quantity of food either.
And then ,the healthy as a horse, young girl comes trampsing up from the deli with her takeout food while we're all waiting on her to bring her food stamp card for her mother to use. Of course, the takeout food was paid for with her card as well. I didn't think this was possible but it happened.
I'm taking issue with the people who illiegally take and expect handouts.

I'm thankful for my job and that I still have a job. I do want to see everyone have food in their homes and bellies. For what she paid for that food, she could have fed many more. If someone is down on their luck and hungry, yes, they should receive help. But this is happening too often with people who don't deserve it.

AMEN! This is what I'm talking about. This is one of the reasons our country is in the shape it's in today!
I know a person right here in Hazlehurst who lives in public housing paying $38 per month. She makes $22K per year which isn't alot. She has two kids with her husband who has 7 more that he doesn't support. Her husband works and gets paid under the table so he won't have to pay child support. He lives with her but they tell the housing authority that he doesn't cause then they'd have to pay more rent. She gets food stamps, help paying childcare, help with her utilities, and reduced rent. Then when tax time comes, she claims her 2 nephews who do not live with her. Last year she got back from the government over $8000 in tax refunds!!! How? All the dependents and cuts.

Let me tell you this too. Her husband smokes weed every day so somedays he just doesn't feel up to going to work and making that tax free money and she doesn't miss a week getting her nails and hair done. Yet, she feels entitled to all she gets and more. How do I know all of this? I work with her and was her friend for a time and helped her out monetarily many times when she poormouthed to me until I found out all this BS I couldn't deal with it any longer.
This is only one that I know personally. If each of us know one similar situation, and I'm sure you do, then this country HAS to stand up and do something. I am today. I'm sick of it. I'm writing my representatives, congressman and governor. And maybe even the president. If we each take the time maybe we can make a difference.

And whose fault is it that the job market and economy is in trouble? This is a vicious circle we've gotten ourselves into. And I won't quit bitching until I see a change. That's MY money paying for those steaks being eaten up by no good, sorry, low lifers. It's YOUR money too........ if you work
