After watching the WTOC news about the kid in Vidalia buying the drug spice in a BP store I took a drive. What did I find? I found this same drug being sold at all the Indian owned stores in Hazlehurst and kids where lined up to get it. I asked one kid what was so special about this stuff they was getting. She said nothing it's just a good smelling incense. She didnt realize I knew what they was doing with this. The store was the one on the Bell Telephone rd the other was across from Harveys and the one on Uvalda Highway. All three had this stuf and selling it like hot cakes to our kids. These kids where paying $20 for this stuff. I went by the flash stores and none of them had any of this wonder why. I have banned my children from going in these store and told them the only store thier allowed in is flash foods. This stuff needs to be banned from all stores before we have one of our kids killed from it.

I totally agree. It should be banned! The sad thing is, the store owners know for a fact what the kids are doing with it they just don't care as long as they're making money. They're no better than a drug dealer standing on the street selling drugs to kids. And I know whether its made illegal or not the kids will still find a way to get it but why should getting high be made this damn easy? I hope the family of the girl involved in the tragedy that took place because of spice pushes for it to be made illegal.

Or atleast make it an age limit. But there is no way to keep kids from getting high...we would have to make gas and cool whip illegal! People should beat their childrens A$$ like my mother an father did...makes it a little less encouraging!

It is so sad that these type stores are allowed to sell drugs and beer to minors and the law wont do anything about it. I know of one of the stores mentioned above that sells beer to minors and never has got caught wonder how. The Goverment will bring these people here and give the money to open a store or business and they mess up and all they get is ran out of the country for thre months then allowed to come back like its ok . WTF! Thats giving them a free vacation for what they done.
C'mon people get real. As long as you buy from them they will be here, Boycott there ases. It is bad when a child has to loose a life before this shit is publicized. And even then nothing will be done.

Spice is a dangerous drug even if it's legal. I hope not for long. Young people if you want to take the chance of hurting someone or possibly kill someone you go ahead and buy the stuff. Just remember, you may face one to twenty years in prison or longer if you have a reaction to the drug and do someone outside of your character. You don't want to take the chance of how the drug could affect you no matter what your friends may tell you.

Could you imagine for one minute the people that are supposed to be protecting us in war is off inhaling something that is not actually intended for humans??? With all the activities in the schools, recreation dept., churches, library etc. how can you come up with the thought "who is going to come up with something for our younger generation to do?> Drug use is something a stupid individual decides to do to themselves.

real disgusted i agree with you that there are plenty to do in schools, recreation, and church as well. but have you ever looked at statistics it is the children of middle class that most of the time dont get to participate in those things and it is also proven that middle classers are most commonly the people who abuse marijuana. so maybe those parents should use the money that they spend on dope to let their children participate so that the wii not grow up smoking marijuan or SPICE

I believe the "Spice" and any other not for human consumption incense should be banned. I also believe that by legalizing marijuana we could squash this problem. Set age restrictions on it similar to alcohol & tobacco and voila, problem solved! It doesn't take a rocket scientist folks. Scientific research shows there is no harmful side effects contributed from the use of marijuana. If you think so, prove your point before jumping gun, but just in my opinion legalize what the "kids" are searching for and they wouldn't find it fun anymore. Look at Amsterdam, teenage use is dramatically low. South America legalized every drug and offered government supported rehabilitation and enacted other tough laws and there isn't any problem there. It's the democracy in the U.S. that keeps these drugs illegal! We do anything for the almighty dollar, and you can't deny it.

"Spice" is the generic term used to refer to synthetic cannabinoids sprayed on smokeable material. Originally Spice was a brand name, but the name became synonymous with the drug, much like how all cotton swabs are now "Q-Tips" even if they are a generic brand.

The popular brand of synthetic marijuana in Jeff Davis county is Dr. Pineapple Express. It consists of damiana and marshmallow leaves with 3-4 milligrams of the synthetic cannabinoid AM-2201 per gram of smokeable material.

Synthetic cannabinoids pose no health threats unless you smoke and overdose off of the pure chemical. Even then you are not in any danger, you will simply have the worst panic/anxiety attack of your life for a courple of hours. The cannabinoid smoking mixtures do not carry that danger with them as the amount of cannabinoids in the mix is simply too small to overdose from. Even if your smoking mixture has hot spots in it where you may have an extra milligram or two of cannabinoids you'll be ok, it'll just be a nasty hit. These smoking mixtures are not going to kill your kids.

The "Not For Human Consumption" warning is there to cover the vendor's ass. It is entirely for human consumption. It is 100% legal is every way, shape and form to sell synthetic marijuana as herbal incense. It only becomes illegal if you sell it for human consumption, as the cannabinoids have not been and never will be approved for human consumption by the FDA.

There is also a lot of racism in this thread. Almost ALL independently owned, non-chain stores are selling so called "legal highs" now. White, black, brown or yellow they don't care. It would be sold over the counter of Flash Foods also if the corporate ownership saw the money in it.

A quick breakdown of the numbers would give you an idea as to the money being made here. Let us see what it costs to produce this $20 3 gram container of Dr. Pineapple Express:

$0.20 packaging
$0.05 damiana/marshmallow stock
~10 milligrams of AM-2201. A single GRAM (1,000 milligrams) of AM-2201 costs $35. Bulk price AM-2201 would be about $2.50 per gram.

So the 'active ingredient', AM-2201, costs nothing.

$0.25 to make $20. Somewhere in that $19.75 middle range is where the distributor prices it at.

Synthetic cannabinoids are being made illegal for two reasons.

1) Military use. Widespread use began in 2008. That is a big no-no.

2) Teenagers/High Schoolers. Teenagers are going to the store, buying "Spice", getting higher/more stoned than they have ever been in their lives and then freaking out and going to the emergency room even though they are in absolutely no danger. Of course this scares the parents, so substances are made illegal for meritless reasons.

One last thing. Synthetic cannabinoids get you stoned and give you the munchies. They act as cannabinoid receptor agonists. That is it. If you or someone you know went out and committed a crime or did something bad while they were high on it, that is your/their fault entirely. Your cannabinoid receptors don't make you kill, rob or hurt people. You make that decision. Don't try and find a scapegoat. You are either a piece of crap or you are not.
