The Commonwealth of Kentucky doesn't allow an 8% alcohol tax. The maximum is 6%, which of course our city council decided on.

The Murray City Council passed the second reading of a new alcohol ordinance with a vote of 8-3 Thursday.
Despite objections from several council members, the regulatory tax rate for alcoholic beverages will be 8 percent for both restaurant and package sales.
