Idea to change Vancouver's name to Fort Vancouver leaves Leavitt cold

Full story: Oregonlive.com

The city's next mayor hasn't caught the Fort Vancouver, Wash., fever. Tim Leavitt is perplexed at the wildfire publicity over the notion that Vancouver should change its name from Vancouver to Fort Vancouver to erase confusion with the city in British Columbia and establish a distinct identity.

We live in Vancouver, Washington or Vancouver USA. If people who live here have a problem with that, then they must surely get tired of telling people back east that they live in Washington state, not D.C.
My only issue with our city, is if I am in Olympia or Seattle, I must look for signs to Salem, Oregon to find my way home, and if I am in Oregon, I must look for Seattle signs to find my way home. Why can't we just live in Vancouver, Washington or say 'Vancouver, USA', and have signs in our state, and in Oregon that will show us 'the way to go home'? Can you imagine the cost for marketing, etc, for the change to the city name. We already have an area called Ft. Vancouver. The name of our Mall changed but what do we call it? Leave the name, give us some signs.

I agree with CTaylor. Plus we have plenty of duplicate city names in our country, not to mention duplicates of our cities with foreign countries (Paris, Texas and Paris, France for example). As far as having to explain "Washington State" vs "Washington, D.C.", I think it should be "Washington" and "D.C.". Why was D.C. ever named Washington, District of Columbia anyway?

change it to fort vancouver, the problem is both are in somewhat close proximity, both are in the Northwest. even if the u.s. vancouver was first, the bc vancouver is way bigger therefore they will never change their name. we are still small enough we can change it.

Why change it? City names do not have to be unique. Otherwise, Sacramento, New Mexico would have to change their name, too. And you can bet when they say they're from Sacramento, everyone assumes California.

Daily Horoscope for December 17

Leo

If you're going to a festive party or gathering today you'll have a great time. It will be good to see some old faces and nice to meet some new ones. Don't be shy about breaking the ice if you spot someone you'd like to know better, as with Mars in your sign dancing with Venus in fiery Sagittarius, bells will ring and fires light up. Get the last of those Christmas cards out of the way now, so they're not on your conscience.
