Let's have pros and cons for this idea. There will be a meeting Tues. Aug. 17 with the village attorney to discuss. Show up and ask questions. Home rule means the village board has the authority to do as they please, such as raise taxes, without having to have our votes on a referendum. This is a big decision for the voters, so show up to the meeting. We need more info to make an informed decision. Thoughts anyone??

just recieved some new info about meeting on monday,i guess this is just to pass the resolution, sounds like we need to get as much information on the pros and cons and then go to next board meeting on august17th to ask any questions we may have.but in the mean time you can still contact the village board and let them know how you feel either way if you cant make the board meeting.

I would like to know if this will impact our police dept. Will the board have the authority to disband them if they choose without input from the residents? Still no contract, is this why the village won't agree to one, because they want to get home rule in place so they can get rid of our police? Let's have an answer from the mayor on that one.

home rule does give the village board much more power to do things without input from residents,as far as the police department goes they can really disband them now if they want to.

They know they can't get Worth residents to pass a tax increase. But they could pass a tax increase if they just call it Home Rule and try to make it look beneficial. These guys are smart. Maybe they will fool the people of Worth.

CAGEY is a perfect description. Maybe we should all empty our piggy banks up at the village hall :-)

Incur debt. That's the one we worry about.

lets be informed

Being informed is the best solution for this topic. The benefits of Home Rule outweigh the negatives if used properly. Many of the "taxes" that can be implimented with home rule are designed to bring in revenue from residents that live outside the village but while either visiting or passing threw town buy their goods and services here.

I read that in the paper. Why not take the time to explain how it will bring in revenue from residents outside of Worth. We don't have a mall.

gas tax---- food tax and things like that.

So no residents in Worth eat or use gas? If I buy gas in Worth and buy food at Fairplay, I should then go to the other Fairplay and another gas station because ours is more expensive?
