Hello everyone! I'm looking for a talented hairdresser, and would appreciate recommendations. I'd love to find someone that respects my opinion (read: won't go scissor happy). I'd also like to find someone that is good with color and uses quality dye.

I've read all of the old hair related posts, and am just trying to gather all of the information that I can, so I can make a good decision. Let's face it, hair coloring/maintenance gets expensive, and nobody wants to be disappointed with the results.

Also, please don't bash anyone in this post. My intentions are not to hurt anyone's feelings. I'm just asking for recommendations. So, if you know of anyone that's praiseworthy, please share.

Thanks in advance!

In my opinion, Johnny Cummings (Scissors) In Vicco is one of the very best. He listens to what you want, Scissors has a great atmosphere, reasonable prices and I'm always happy with how Johnny does my hair!

Shana at Barbs Salon and Spa is great, she does really well with the color and cuts. Whatever you show her you want, she will do.

You're not going to be able to strip old color and highlight, highlighting is bleach, the absence of color, which is doing basically the same thing that stripping does, strips the pigment from you hair. What you want to do is going to be EXPENSIVE and it's going to take a few visits to achieve the color that you want. What color is your hair now? Is it all artificial color? If you want to go the cheapest route you may want to try the vocational school, there are some good ones there and the teachers are really good there.

I know, sweetie, it's an inside joke, I didn't expect you to get it. Die/dies=death, dye/dyes=hair color. Get it now?

It depends on what you want done. If you want a retouch that is cheap, but it gets more expensive if you want more colors, or all over color, etc.

The reason it costs so much is because of the chemicals. I wouldn't recommend stripping hair color at all unless it is an extremely dark color like black or dark brown, and if it is permanent hair color. It is EXTREMELY damaging to the hair, plus you are removing the artificial pigment which is hard to do, on top of natural pigment, which leaves hair color very little to grab on to, so you HAVE to color on top of stripped hair, otherwiseyou walk out with orange hair. Very time consuming, very dangerous, thus, very expensive.

Johnny and Eddie are excellent, but hard to get an appt with. Johnny Joseph is also excellent, Jess Wooten at Cut Ups, there are so many good ones it's hard to pick just one!! But those would be my tops. Too bad Great Clips only does haircuts, there are some good ones there, too

i am extremely picky over my hair. i went to johnny cummins in vicco for years. toward the end, it just really seemed like he was half heartedly doing his job. my hair would b uneven or something, always. and he uses parchment paper instead of foil, which doesnt leave ur hair as bright as it can be. those things considered, he is still supercheap. i pay more than double now, but the results are well worth it. shana at barbs day spa is spectacular. she does great work, but u will pay for it. i say its worth it cuz u get exactly what u want. the great thing is, if its not what u asked for, she will fix it. i have been going to her about three years and i have never been dissatisfied. she does great work. but each individual had individual needs. only u can decide what is best for u. shana even cuts my sons hair and my teenage stepdaughters hair. i will not let any one else touch my hair or theirs, n everybody in the shop and here at home know that!
