Serious question, not a troll post.

Just happened upon this forum and saw the town name. Wondered if that 80's show was based in this town?

The show was based in Hazzard county Georgia (they used 2 Zs in the name, Hazard, KY only uses one). Although I have heard that certain characters in the show (e.g. Boss Hogg) were loosely based off of actual people that lived in Hazard, KY though.

I know it was filmed in Georgia but they made up the name Hazzard county. The place really doesnt exist in Georgia only in the show.It was a big open dirt road space they made into Hazzard county. They may be one now though.Thats what i heard anyways.Maybe Google it.ive read about it before.

Although Hazzard County, Georgia was a fictional location (the early episodes of the show were filmed in Covington, Georgia and Conyers, Georgia), the real-life town of Hazard, Kentucky was a beneficiary of the show's popularity."

Yes hazard ky was the area based for the show but the producers wanted a more southern draw to the show so changed the state to Georgia, the same thing happened to the series the Walking Dead. The original state the story started was Ky (since the author is from Richmond Ky) buy since the story line had characters trying to reach the center for disease control the producers change the state from ky to Georgia due to Atlanta. Two series whose original story lines were based in ky but were changed to Georgia.

Yes, it was loosely based on Hazard Kentucky, but when writing fictional scripts it is always proven to not associate it with an actual place of recognition. In this case they went on with it as a county and not the town. Leaves a little more to the imagination, just like the "Beverly Hillbillys", they really did not want to make them people from the Ozarks. In this political correct world, these shows would never make it today. As to the filming, they did shoot some footage in Georgia, although, most of it was done on back lots at Warner Brothers in Los Angeles. I live in Bakersfield California and have been at all of these studios, not to mention, California has such a wide array of scenery, it is always much cheaper to stay on location. Anyhow, it is a great shout out for you all. My mama is a Ritchie and all of her family came from Perry County Kentucky, they also hale from Harlan, Clay and Leslie counties. Of course we really all came from Virginia. Great subject and dont let nobody tell ya different. We all from Alexander Crockett Ritchie, got a lot of Sisemore cousins out there too.

The original idea was based on some experiences which one of the writers had visiting relatives in this area,i.e.Hazard. The Beverly Hillbillys was similar. One of the best episodes was the one in which Mrs. Drydale wished to join a group such as the DAR(name changed of course.) and in the last scene, Jed refused to name his ancestor. When Grannie questioned him, he didn't want to brag. We aren't inbred, we are line bred. Reproducing with a first cousin or closer is inbreeding, with some kinship more removed is line breeding. Outcrossing is reproducing within the species but with no kinship for 8 or more generations. Breeds of animals are produced via in and line breeding. If it is done frequently, there is more likelihood of "bad" traits appearing or a decline in the general health or physique. Up until a generation ago, humans tended to marry those with similar socioeconomic backgrounds.(and it kept the property in the family.) A "bad bunch" is a bad bunch and people here still tend to resemble their family in actions, appearance, etc. I am proud of being DAR,DAC and Colonial Dames and descended from Cherokee and Iroquis marrying into these families. I am related to Jean Ritchie by blood and marriage. There is a wry humor in both these shows. If you really watch them, they make fools out of those who look down on them. And around here its spelled "Sizemore". And making fun of Southerners is the only ridicule and discrimination which is still acceptable.
