The Only thing I know is that my kids lost 2 friends today, these kids when to Mt Eden High School. When my kids told me crying that they're friends were dead I could not help it but cry with them too, and to tell them, that the reason parents don't whant to let they're kids go out to be in the streets past 11 pm is for the reason, that this could happen to them to, and the funny thing is that they finaly understood and said that i was right. These kids were robed at gun point. Why couldn't the robbers take what ever they had, and not take their live. Two lives were not just lost here, possibly 3 or 4 depending on the number of people that committed this horrible act. Because those men or kids what ever they are, will have to leave with the guilt that they murder some one in cold blood for the rest of their lives. But one thing is for sure, the Hayward community needs to wake up and see what are kids are doing. We need to instill the fear of GOD in to our youth. Other wise these acts of violence will continue to happen over and over.
Samuel Nava was one of my son's best friends. He was murdered May 3rd on Mission Blvd at 6:45 pm in broad daylight. The streets of Hayward have become dangerous no matter what time of day or night. We are losing our precious children. Sam would have graduated next week from Hayward High where he was an elite athlete who was adored by students and staff.Sam's murder was a slap in the face to all Hayward parents. If it could happen to him it could happen to anyone.Sam was not gang related in any way, he was gunned down on his way home in broad daylight by a animal with no concience or respect for life.As a city we should not rest until the streets are safe and these murdering animals are in cages. Rest in Peace Sweet Sammy...

I do agree Hayward has gotton worsse thats true and none of it where my street is soooooo.......enough with the ghetto remarks. Theres all walks of life and white, black and latino ghettos and trailer drug trash too. And most dont here are from other cities. Theres good and bad everywhere and in all people. Look at these no ghetto living child molesters and crazy kid nappers..........um they dont live anywhere near the "ghettos" so whats that all about? wake up and quit being discriminative..........what about the sick perverts? CRIME DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE!
You're obviously an African American and trying to hide all the uncivil and criminal behavior that your race is guilty of under a rug! Agreed that there is good and bad everywhere but you have to look no further than flatland Oakland and Richmond to see where the real danger is and who (what race) is committing the vast majority of crime. That is NOT saying all people of any race are bad at all but the crime statistics speak for themselves. The majority of crime in San Leandro and Hayward is also committed by that same race, There is actually quite a bit of child molestation in "da hood". Look no further than that walking pile of shit that killed the 4 cops in Oakland last year. At the time he was wanted for a recently committed rape of a child! All sorts of sexual depravity, much of it involving minors, in da hood! Yeah I know...that cultural rot called hip hop says all that depravity is just fine. Girls and women are all "hoes' and "bitches" who need to be beat up or killed anytime they won't put out!

For one thing crime is rising everywhere and yu can't assume you are safe in certain areas. It's happening everywhere and some not even reported. And you mention a street I live on and there has;nt been any crime here in years so get the facts right and spell Forselles way right. I've lived here for sev several years and not on drugs and work full time and so does eveyones else in my family......so unless you know then don't assume anything. Everyone has to be careful......everywhere and always.
Well of course everyone has to be always be careful at all times. However in the matter of safety it's relative to where you live or where you are at the time. If you think you are as safe in flatland Oakland or Richmond as even certain areas of Hayward as you are in most of San Leandro or Castro Valley or Dublin you are dreaming!

To call this murdering, walking pile of shit an animal is an insult to our four legged friends! He's nothing but a turd with legs who should be flushed down the toilet with the other shit! Of course you have that cultural rot called "gangsta rap" glorifying these punks, thugs and gangs and condoning every uncivil and criminal act up to and including murder (great message for impressionable young people eh?) so I guess it's what we can expect in the f***ed up times we live in! The cops are increasingly finding kids as young as 12 and 13 carrying guns and not afraid to use them at the slightest provocation, apparently trying to emulate their gun toting gangsta rap idols! You're so right that this could happen to anyone. These turd-head punks don't care who gets killed by their barbaric behavior, even who gets caught in the crossfire!

Suggestion...start planting more trees and shrubbery on the flats. The crooks don't like greenery because it makes it harder for them to see what is coming around the corner (like police cars) and to see who is watching them. The speed bumps in some areas are a very good start. Berkeley put in those strange little flower pot rondelays, that's to slow traffic down and keep the crooks out too. One way streets make it more difficult for outsiders, for the same reason.
Also, start neighborhood watch groups. Safety doesn't come for free or without effort.
And start kicking politician butt. Politicians pay attention to whoever screams the loudest or campaigns for or against them the hardest.
I'm shopping for a house in Hayward.

Here is a Wikipedia page discussing Environmental Design to prevent crime. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_prevention...

It is also possible to punish landlords who act as slumlords. This may be happening in Hayward. Ill behaved Section 8 tenants can be troublesome to their neighbors. An absentee landlord offloads most of the grief on the neighborhood while collecting rent from the government. Fees for licensing rentals and fines for houses used to harbor criminal activities can encourage landlords to be more careful in screening their tenants.

Interesting topic. There does seem to be more thugs around. As Oakland has recently cracked down on some of its gangs they all simply move to Hayward. Face it we are small compared to Oakland and we do not have as sophisticated a police force. My kids tell me four gangs run the town; one in each compass location east west north and south. This set up is repeated in all east bay cities and most of the south bay.

Some of the candidates running for city counsel want to keep nightclubs out of downtown because they would attract the wrong element. Yea people who are willing to pay for a night out. My kids won't go to the new movie theatre becuase gang ownership has not been deternined. You want to keep thugs out bring people down there via nightclubs and resturants.

its not like hayward was that great of a city to begin with the school systems out of hand and a piece of shit the class of 2006 at hayward high under 50% of kids graduated on time meaning most never did and the rest had to go to continuation school to get there diploma so where are those kids who never graduated they are not getting jobs because they have no work experience and no diploma so there out robbing stealing and selling drugs what do you expect when your superintendent rips off the citys schools board and puts the school system into debt hayward will just keep goin down hill maybe if parents and teachers invested more time in there kids things would change but for now it wont and probably never will

I blame you people, your shitty city is crap. RUN DOWN. it looks worse than Oakland. There are no new anything in Hayward, Pete's coffee is the newest place in hayward. Downtown is 2 blocks (not a downtown), worthless. No one wants to go to Hayward its a crap pile. I mainly blame white people because their ignorance and the fact that you act holier than thou, but dont make more than 50k a year?? LMFAO!!!!! No house in Hayward is worth more than 300K, so now i suggest you start cleaning up your houses, properties, make the value rise. get BETTER jobs,( i am a sysadmin i make 100k a year ty) Just look at successful cities like Dublin, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Danville. So like i say make more money take care of your run down establishments, because youre just as sh!tty as the sh!t thats making the city sh!tty.... get it?-HaHa

We moved from Castro Valley in 1999, to be far from the whole Hayward and SL thing- too many idiots from all over- LA, Oakland, anywhere, coming into the cities and setting up their gangs- all of it facilitated by the section 8 that their Mommas live in and peddle the drugs and whores out of their apts- get real- let them shoot each other up, let citizens defend themselves, and have the police grow a pair of balls by fighting back against the murderer, molester, rapist loving ACLU!

Yeah let's let the cops shoot anybody that gets out of line and looks at them the wrong way. It's all the ACLU's and Obama's fault! Let's bring back the concentration camps! Hitler was right!

I have lived in Hayward for 15 years and have seen an increase in crime. Please check out the police dept's website and volunteer with others like myself to make our city a safer place to live and encourage others to get involved too!

I came form the peninsula and have lived in Hayward for a little over two years, we just bought our second home and "ha ha" it was way more than 300K. I volunteer in my city and have fallen in love with Hayward as it has so much to offer. I see many here complaining yet most are not even from Hayward and where are you during the city council meetings or school board meetings!?!?! you don't have a right to say anything if you're not helping improve the community or having your voice heard where it matters. Is it getting worse? i don't know have not been here long enough but i can tell you that financially we are doing better then many of the cities in the Peninsula which have more money then Hayward.

Thanks for the post. You are right. If you are not from Hayward and don't actively participate in trying to change things, then don't make ignorant comments.

I live in Hayward since 2009 and I can't tell you how much I love Hayward. it's quiet and it has a small town feeling. Some areas are nicer than others, as long as you are minding your own business, you will be fine. Although I have to admit that the downtown was not popular but look at the downtown now????? it will never be like downtown Oakland and San Francisco, and I would much rather Hayward niched in small town charm than big downtown with a TON of night clubs and bar; that would give people another chance to say that Hayward are ghetto.
