Yeah things are getting worse! It's still not Oakland or Richmond by any means but there are more and more barbaric criminal acts committed than any time that I can remember (and I've been in the area for over 40 years!). Lots of reasons for this I think. Big influx of people from "da hood" (many of them supported by the rest of us taxpayers via Section 8, welfare, food stamps, etc.) who still think they are living in "da hood". That totally worthless gangsta rap culture which glorifies punks, thugs and gangs just as it condones every uncivil and criminal act up to and including murder. All the violence in the media (movies, TV, video games, rap lyrics, etc.). The break up of the American family...too many single mothers and missing in action "my baby's daddy" fathers. Too many kids dropping out of school before they even learn the basics and destined for a life of crime, welfare leeching and slacking. A depressed economy with loss of government services and lack of opportunities for jobs admittedly doesn't help things. A lot of it boils down to the lack of personal responsibility and consideration for those around you. None of this is unique to Hayward of course. In urban areas in particular (and to a lesser extent in the whole country) we're headed toward being a more violent and non caring society and where it will all end I have no idea. Canada looks better to me every day!

Don't bet any money it will get better anytime soon! The punk, thug and punk population is steadily growing, hot helped by all those Section 8 slackers who we are paying the rent for as well as being victims of their crime sprees!

Actually compared to cesspools like flatland Oakland and flatland Richmond it's not anywhere close to being as bad in Hayward. The fact remains that it's getting worse though and we all should be disturbed about that.

In fact, everywhere is the same. There are good areas and bad areas in every cities so just don't said that Hayward is getting worse. You don't know what is bad or worse.

You are either naive or delusional or just plain ignorant if you believe "everywhere is the same". Oakland has over 100 murders a year and San Leandro has 1 or 2. Which city do you really think is safer? Many people in Oakland and Richmond are even afraid to send their kids out in the streets in broad daylight in fear they will be caught in the crossfire of thugs and gangs. Your final statement that "You don't know what is bad or worse" is so ludicrous it doesn't even deserve a response!

Honest,I know what the hell I'm talking bout here.I spend at least an hour or two a day for the past two years researching this very subject(see I'm here).I know the numbers but crunching is for nerds. Most of S.L. is O.K. but not from San Leandro B.A.R.T. over that way..Aka Sobrante Park.Generally flatlands are worse-although in the last little while trends are happening.West st. and San Pablo and what not have much police presence.South Hayward from old drugged out Forcelles/Tennyson area to gang areas around Campo Ramos...Ast,lotsa task around. You absolutely cannot walk through dark parts of downtown Hayward late at night or you WILL be robbed at gunpoint. You cant have a decent business or shinny car,or you will be followed and home invaded eventually. There are some active predators in the heart of the bay that need to be delt with.Trust that downtown Hayward is the hottest hotspot that needs help fast.Kids in this area are robbing like its the thing to do,not because its the worst ghetto.

The Only thing I know is that my kids lost 2 friends today, these kids when to Mt Eden High School. When my kids told me crying that they're friends were dead I could not help it but cry with them too, and to tell them, that the reason parents don't whant to let they're kids go out to be in the streets past 11 pm is for the reason, that this could happen to them to, and the funny thing is that they finaly understood and said that i was right. These kids were robed at gun point. Why couldn't the robbers take what ever they had, and not take their live. Two lives were not just lost here, possibly 3 or 4 depending on the number of people that committed this horrible act. Because those men or kids what ever they are, will have to leave with the guilt that they murder some one in cold blood for the rest of their lives. But one thing is for sure, the Hayward community needs to wake up and see what are kids are doing. We need to instill the fear of GOD in to our youth. Other wise these acts of violence will continue to happen over and over.

my family and i lived in hayward all our lives. hayward is not getting bad, its the people that moves here to hayward. Most of the crimes that occurs here in hayward are people from other citys that comes to hayward and gives us a bad name. Many people from other towns moves here and brings there trash with them. Its not all of hayward that is bad! ITS THE PEOPLE THAT COMES TO HAYWARD!

we need to fight back with guns... reguardless if guns are legal or not criminals will still carry and use them... I felt safe in my city at one point but i think ill be heading to a firearms shop soon to pick up a handgun to protect myself and my family when necessary before its too late, i dont know how easy it is to get a concealed weapons permit here in hayward but i will try..... for those who dont feel safe in their city and are SANE i would reccommend to give this a shot... its time to stop hoping we wont fall victim to the streets and start knowing we are safer and can defend ourselves with a gun. The chances of taking a criminals own gun and shooting him with it during a attack is very slim...

I have lived in Hayward for 23 years and my husband has lived there is whole life. The City Of Hayward for the most part of fine. It is however the people moving in from Oakland and other area's that are bring the trouble with them.
I live on a quiet street in Hayward, none of the neighbors or the neighbors childrens on our street are trouble makers at all. But Three vehicles one which was ours was stolen from in front of our houses within a year, there was a shooting across the street from my house last year one bullet went through my gargar another on our roof, another over at ours neighbors roof and another neighbor across the street a bullet went right throug the bedroom where their grandchild was sleeping. Another neighbor of ours was jumped a gettin beatin up on broad daylight until another neighbor seen what was going on a helped. And none of these people who committed any of these crimes lives in our neighbor hood or for that matter even in Hayward. Parents need to get off their asses and start being parents to their the wild (animal) children they raised, the rest of us and our kids should not suffer because people can't bother to be parents to their kids, as long as they get their welfare checks the parents are happy.

You people are delusional if you think all this crime is coming from people that dont live in Hayward... I think the city of Hayward as a whole needs to readjust its view of itself. Do you really think people are coming here from Oakland just to do crime? That doesn't even make sense.

Why can't everyone just light up a joint together and get along - I don't know anyone who wants to comit a crime anywhere once they are stoned. In the 60's they said it right, make love not war!

I've lived in S. Hayward all my life (>40yrs). I think everyone is overlooking the obvious: Hayward is "The Heart Of The Bay". We are an obvious link between N. Bay and S. Bay or S.F. and the Valley. The San Mateo Bridge/92, 880 & 580 are all within a very convenient distance of the others. This makes it quite the perfect location for gangs/criminals from all surrounding areas to hook up to do illegal business. More importantly, it gives them several options for escape from the cops or each other.

Due to the nature of the business, violence is guaranteed to occur, and it occurs where it happening--here! No doubt, rival gangs or hopeful allies conduct negotiations here as well. I think the odds for failure in all scenarios is high.

It isn't the only contributing factor, of course, but I believe it a significant factor, none-the-less.

For one thing crime is rising everywhere and yu can't assume you are safe in certain areas. It's happening everywhere and some not even reported. And you mention a street I live on and there has;nt been any crime here in years so get the facts right and spell Forselles way right. I've lived here for sev several years and not on drugs and work full time and so does eveyones else in my family......so unless you know then don't assume anything. Everyone has to be careful......everywhere and always.

I do agree Hayward has gotton worsse thats true and none of it where my street is soooooo.......enough with the ghetto remarks. Theres all walks of life and white, black and latino ghettos and trailer drug trash too. And most dont here are from other cities. Theres good and bad everywhere and in all people. Look at these no ghetto living child molesters and crazy kid nappers..........um they dont live anywhere near the "ghettos" so whats that all about? wake up and quit being discriminative..........what about the sick perverts? CRIME DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE!
