Don't expect the government to pay for all of your food all of the time. Those days are coming to an end. Taxpayers can't afford it anymore. We are overburdened with entitlements.

Hopefully the lunches will be sold for $1.50 per plate, which is dirt cheap for a meal!!!

The criticism on this topic is crazy. This is one thing that I do not mind my tax dollars going to. So many kids look forward to the meal at school and once school is out what are they to do? Its not their fault that the parents are worthless. Hungry adults I don't feel sorry for, hungry kids however break my heart. Yes some take advantage but that's with everything. But childhood hunger is a huge deal and it's growing larger every day. Sad but very true.

If you are blessed and highly favored and don't need those services, why were you asking about the free lunch summer program?

Every year I pick up few children I know that aren't getting meals like they suppost to and bring them to the park to get a free meal, no child should have to go hungry. I even sometimes bring meals to their home just make sure their eating. Bc either their parents don't care or their to elderly and cant provide for them. So some people really needs the help, tho I do agree a lot take advantage. but have any of yall have to go hungry? If not then you wouldn't understand what these innocent children are going through. They cant help what family they are born into, just like some the children cant help their parents don't work and get picked on at school for not having nice clothes.

be creative, only spend half the money on crack and meth and use the extra cash for food for the kids

God?!?!? Diligence and perseverance in our everyday work is a characteristic often praised in the Bible. Hard work results in success and a satisfied life, whereas laziness never fulfills our needs.[I am sorry, this may not be politically correct. This is totally back-ass backwards from what Obama and his entitlement slaves believe in ... may the IRS have mercy on me!!!!!!]

Another words? You can't get a solution as long as dead beat parents can only use money for pills and crack. Could you get the police involved? Not as long as they are doing the same thing. Until a solution is found should we still let innocent children go hungry? This is a world wide problem, not just a small town problem.

I work with a children's ministry and was wondering sine school is out. I can not save the BIG hands but I can work on the LITTLE hands. My children are way grown with children and do not live here. Now just what is your concern here..I am not going to lower myself to your standards or let you steal my joy for caring for HUNGRY children..It is not only here in Steele child hood hunger is world wide..Maybe you should read more instead of being so sarcastic....

i saw a report on the news just the other day that said a household needs an income of at least $58,000.00 to live comfortably.now I know a lot of people who work two jobs and if the other adult is working don't even make $35,000.00 a year.and you want to tell somebody to quit living off the taxpayers money.those lunches are the difference between a child having something to eat or waiting all day until the parents get home to eat.some of you don't think things through before you post your comments.

A child shouldn't be staying home all day with no adult present if he or she can't prepare their own food while the parent is away. I believe that would fall under "child neglect".

Guest from Hazen it is not our fault if the child is hungry. There are programs in place we pay for with taxes. It is the tax payers fault the parents won't do for their kids or take from their kids. The government needs to come up with a better way. Once people had to go get certain foods but then the government decided that embrassed and belittled the people and their circumstances yet those same people will stand in linywne at food pantries. Whats the difference? Feed the kids what ever way it takes but cut the food stamps out and the fraud.

Ahh, you left out something,$58,000 for a family of 4 !!!!!!! but I am sure that was an honest mistake. Anyway, this was a National poll and Missouri (thank God) is not Californication or Taxxachusetts; where you bend over when you see your tax accountant.

You know, we had an entitlement family of four living near us. I knew the guy didn't have a job (and he had a wife and two kids). So I told him I would get him a job where I work. He stated that, "it is alright. I am trying to get disability. My back is messed up." Now I seen this guy do stuff on his car and etc, that I couldn't even do. Needless to say, that was the last time I talked to him. A white, under 30, male - perfectly fine - trying to get disability! He got it a year later. Anyway, to make a long story short. A babysitter took care of their kids , when they went out to party. The babysitter had told me that all their gov't checks were on a table. She looked at them. This family was scamming the gov't a little over $4000 a month!!!!!!!! I mean, they had it all going on, even taking care of their parents, when none live there, etc. Then, they sold drugs on the side and were really making a fortune. They started driving a real expensive car around and the next thing I knew, DEA was talking to us, asking a lot of questions about them. But, if they kept it low key (because they were doing this for years), they could have gotten away with it.
