Its true that I wasnt observant if that is the case BUT I still see a town riddled with 80% blacks and poverty levels that are at welfare levels that should not be ignored, no growth in the way of industry, shacks that should be demolished, and a host of other things I would not be proud to call my hometown. Ever tried looking up famous people on the internet from Hayti? It gives one famous porn star and one famous wrestler.....lol....aint that something for a town of Hayti to be attached to? I remember Hayti for its bars (Max bar), The Top Hat Club and how could you forget when Hayti once had a bowling alley where Ed James Pool Hall now stands. Does anyone remember Hollis James? Yepppers, that was Eds brother who always spoke the magic words "I Would".
All I can say is that the next time you are "down this way" just stay away from Hayti. There are good people there and they are trying to make things better, negative people such as yourself are not helping things any. Don't you have anything better to do than to trash talk Hayti? Get a life.

I remember in the late 90's when Anthony Grau had his bar...Lil Hoot's. (He was such a great guy) I have many memories of hanging out there and then drinking beer behind Black Island.

Um yeah so....they built a bigger place across the street from the old store? And it's doing quite well so I don't know what you're talking about.

All I wish to say OKAY is that Hayti once had a beautiful town with lots of friendly people and now it is a trashy town with a few good folks and a lot of blacks, and shacks that should be demolished....however, what do you expect from the highest crimewave area in Missouri. Hayti has potential to be better but probably never will be. Once I was proud to say Hayti is my hometown but now I say sheepishly that yeah I know where Hayti is. Most folks in Hayti lives off welfare.....I challenge you to prove me wrong. Do you have new industry coming in? Is Loxcreen your only industrial company?

You sound like someone Hayti should be ashamed to claim.

I had totally forgotten that hayti had a zoo. That was so long ago. I must have been 4 or 5 ...

Hayti had to get rid of all of that fun stuff.

The teenagers had too much to do and no one was buying drugs and the cops couldn't get laid.

OICU........I wasnt run out but I did run to another place with much more to offer via jobs and opportunities. Hayti had a zoo for many yrs which featured SUZIE and BUTCH (BEAR AND A LION). They also had a few monkeys, a huge turtle, and an assortment of birds. I remember Martin Ray playing with the lion at close range. Does anyone remember the huge fire which burned out the bowling alley on the Hayti Square? How many of you remember Warren McCorn, Henry Fields, or Post Office Davis. Its true I have a lot of memories of Hayti but once school was out I left the area for good except for brief visits with family and friends. How many of you remember "The Missouri Herald". That was the Hayti newspaper that was owned and printed up by Wilburn and Betty Mathis.

I remember mr. fields , and warren. And everything at the park. It was a very fun place. The square was when we all hung out at all day on saturday.
They had people's drug store... the soda fountain, ice creams, yummm. The pig stand on the corner great slaw burgers :) Poteet Hardware.. then the herald was there in that building . too many memories to list here.
