Is this the Little Prairie & Maple cemetery on Hwy U? I've never seen these two cemeteries when they didn't look freshly mowed & weed-eat. I've alway thought this was such a beautiful cemetery - especially with the georgous shubbery & stately fence around it.

Where is Pine street in C'ville anyway?

I've have a funny story (on me) a few years after they installed the fence around the cemetery.

We were in C'ville visiting my relatives & parents graves. I had finished decorating their graves & then just started walking around the cemetery looking at the graves of many people I knew as a child. Some of these people I didn't even know had passed on.

It was a sombering experience knowing so many people who had been a part of my childhood was now gone & yes, it was somewhat an re-awakening of my own mortality. Yes, I was just sort of lost of a world of my own as I walked about the cemetery.

I really wasn't paying attention to the time, but I had noticed that several vehicles in the cemetery had begun to leave. Well, as I kept walking about the cemetery - it began to grow darker & darker. I finally realized I better get back to my car & leave before they locked the gates to the cemetery.

Well, I got back in my car & started toward the front gate & and low & behold - THE GATES WERE LOCKED! I went to all the gates & they WERE ALL LOCKED!!! I circled around the outer perimeters of the cemtery looking for an exit & I found none. By this time I began to panic. By this time, it was completely dark!

It was November & it had begun to feel chilly.. I had visions of having to spend the night in the cemetery & and my body being found in the morning frozen like a pop-cicle!!!

I was near panic & the point of tears. I had begun to think my best chance of escape was to just go to the front of the cemetery & holler real loud as the cars passed by & maybe attract someones attention who could come to my rescue.

Before I did that, I made one last trip around the edges of the cemetery looking for an escape route.

Well on the left side of the cemetery (looking from the front) there is a section - where there is no fence. The cemetry property adjoins a house.

Well, I started walking out of the cemtery & as I did - the man who lived in the house was getting out of his truck & going into the house. I hollered at him & told him that I was locked in cemetery & could he call someone at the funeral home to come open the gate for me.

He just laughed & said the gate is NOT locked from the inside - just keep driving up to a certain point & the gate will open just like it does in the daytime.

Needless, to say - I felt like an idiot. I thanked him, got in my car & left... It took a while to get over my embarassment before I could tell that story to my family - because I knew what a laugh on me they would all have...
