A piece of local history is being torn down in Hayti. Wish I could remember when it was first built. This much I do know, remember when it was first built its name was the CLUB VELVET, just can't remember the year. Some famous people played in that club.

Would be nice if someone that lives in Hayti would take some pictures of the building and post them.

I always wondered if dance side was built before the bar part or vice versa? There was that hallway between them and wondered if bar was built after dance part.

Wrong! It was built long before that. I graduated in 1961 and it had been there before that. It was there in the late 50's i know.

It had to have been built in the early 40's because it was there when I was in grade school and I'm 78 years old. Shorty Lamb bought it when it was the CLUB VELVET and change the name to ZANZA. Bobo Lamb and I were friends in grade school and I use to go there with him a lot. During that time they built a building around back they used for gambling. Shorty Lamb and a guy they called Popeye from Hayti ran it. Shorty ran the club and Popeye ran the gambling joint. Remember it well, and a bunch of other stuff regarding the old club.

I remember shorty lamb and the rest of the good old boys also. I racked pool balls for HOOT and Blackie hall when i was around 8 or 9 years old at the idle hour 1947 or 1948 so the zanza and idle hour is very old and history.

Fats Domino, Boots Randolf, Narvel Felts, Elvis was booked to play there but his car broke down and he went to the B&B Club in Gobler or the State Line while his car was being fixed. I do know he played at the B&B club once.

Yea i remember when Elvis car broke down and he did go to State line. Elvis stopped at the dairy queen to eat one time on his way back to Memphis. No interstate at that time. I remember when all those were there.
