As it should be. When people receive something for nothing from those that work, they should be ashamed enough they strive to do better. It should be a hand up , not a hand out.

People should not receive enough aid so that they can become comfortable in their situation. A family on the public dole should not be able to afford cell phones, tattoos, big screen tvs, new cars , fancy houses, or designer clothes. They should receive enough for food, shelter, and clothing. Maybe you think they should be wearing the latest sneakers while many taxpayers get their kids clothes from Goodwill. I don't.

Drug testing before receiving government aid would go a long ways towards balancing things out. Do you test positive? No aid and any kids in your care go into foster care. Your kids get fed and you don't.

Your kids get fed and you don't. I agree Earl. A number of states have started doing this, and miraculously the rolls have shrunk. Drug testing, and mandatory job training is the key to getting people off government dependency. The kids need better role models to stop the generational cycle of welfare dependency. If it takes the foster parent system, so be it.

I think one of the biggest improvements they could make to the Food Stamp program would be to limit what can be bought with it ~ make it more like WIC. Working as a cashier at a grocery store, I saw far too many dollars wasted on non-nutritive junk food.

That way, everyone would get more nutrition for the money.

Nothing pre-cooked. They can bake their own cookies if they want junk food. But then we'd have to spend money teaching people to actually cook, wouldn't we.

There are some decent, inexpensive frozen foods and dinners out there nowadays. People from all walks of life could use some education on nutrition and cooking, IMO. But pre-cooked junkfood, I agree. At least use a cake or cookie mix.

Shoot, even I can bake an angelfood cake from a mix. Do it every year for my wife's birthday. It is amazing the number of people who couldn't cook from scratch if they had to nowadays. And I'm not talking about just young people. I know a 30 something oung woman who can't cook a lick even with a cook book.

I'll bet that the person who is judging me clueless is one of those I'm talking about that doesn't know how to use anything but a microwave and a can opener. They for sure can't see common sense when they see it.

The problem with learning to cook is that you have to eat what you make while you are still learning. Some of my early "work" was not so great. Another problem is that so many women work outside the home nowadays - they have to, just to make ends meet. Lots of single moms too. So it is hard to find the time to cook, let alone learn to cook, in those circumstances.

Dad could fix anything around the farm except a meal. Cooking isn't really all that hard. It's like anything else; if it's important enough, you'll make time for it.

Finally a reason for illegals to move out of Kansas. Maybe the rest of the country will follow the lead and these folks will come here to be legally. Free ride is over, time to get off the bus.

Regarding the women who work out of the home, I agree, they would need some "quick meal helpers." Point you made, they "WORK." So no need for them to be needing food stamps. I agree, at times we may all need help. But they make it a life long career of using the system, and 95% aren't worried about getting off the aid and getting a job to support themselves and their families.

And just how many of those families do you know personally ? Put some names and faces to those blanket generalities you so self righteously toss around. I grow so weary of the default stereotypes that your group uses day in and day out. Identify some with real names. Make us believe that you really know people that you accuse.

It could let us know what you are taking that day and we would just know to skip your responses.
