Don't forget Pizza Margherita. Their Fairfax location (Tony's NY Pizza) has good entrees besides the pizza and it's very, very reasonably priced.

Enjoyed some nice Italian Ice at Rita's, behind the new Bank of America.

Also saw a sign that Buffalo Wild Wings is coming in the corner opposite from Pizza Margerita (closest to Wellington Road). I saw no opening date yet.

Love the new Wegmans!

I know this is way down the priority scale in terms of development, but is anyone planning to put in a donut store out here - a Dunkin Donuts or a Krispy Kreme?
Dunkin Donuts recently circulated coupons, and at the bottom, they were announcing new locations in Centreville (right off of 28&29 where the old coffee shop used to be - Jeanine's Coffee and Bean (I think that was the name of the business), and a new location in the Wegman's shopping center. Yipee. I'm glad, although I remember when a dozen donuts used to cost a little over $5. I think Dunkin Donuts charges almost $10 for a dozen donuts now.

Yeah, hopefully businesse which are going belly up can be replaced with something else. ie, LNT and Bella Diamonds both in VA Gateway and Starbucks in Madison Crescent. Plus get some of all these vacant spaces filled. On another note, I was told by a Navy Fed customer service rep at the branch in Manassas that they had enough customer base in the Gainesville/Warrenton area to open up another branch, supposedly going to be in Madison Crescent on 29. This is supposed to happen sometime in early 09.
Yeah, I love NFCU. I was so happy when they opened their location in Centreville, then in Manassas, but it would be awesome if they came even further out here.:-)

Yea, I posted about DD on the previous page.:)

As for the price, they don't charge that much.

I just had to post something about Wegmans. That store is just terrific. The customer service is top-notch and the freshness just can't be beat. Plus the selection and variety -- loving it!

I'm thrilled that I no longer have to trek out to Fairfax. While I have a Safeway in my neighborhood,I will only go there if I'm desperate for something.

Watch out Harris Teeter/Safeway/Giant because there's a new kid in town.

I agree....however it is pretty nice in Giant now because everyone is at Wegmans, plus the prices at Giant, and I suspect the others, are great now due to the competition....ahhhh I love the smell of captialism in the morning....

They altered the signes that stated coming spring od 2010 on Market square. It now says.. Future Home of ....

No change to their web site yet, but it looks like what was posted earlier about the development is true.

I guess we have to wait and see what happens with the Lerner development. If large retail construction is set to start in 2009, wouldn't certain aspects of it need to get on a BOCS agenda soon?

I would guess that any work not already started will not start for at least 4 to 5 years. We are stuck with what we have for quite awhile. We can only hope that the stores already here can survive.

Yeah, went there last Thursday for the soft opening. Two young managing partners, seems like they know what it takes to make a place survive. One of them should go over and help ATR.

More bad news - it looks like Home Depot has pulled out of the Haymarket Village Center. It's only showing Safeway on their website.
I had a feeling this would heappen when I heard the posting of their 3rd quarter profits was down 30% or something like that. Didn't think they would expand into an area which probably doesn't have enough demand to support both Lowes and a HD.

I have been on travel for a month and it is good to catch up on all of the news! I think four to five years is the longest we can expect for any expansion. The economy stinks, but we really haven't seen anything of great substance in the Gainesville/Haymarket area. Yes, there have been foreclosures. But, what percentage of homes do they represent? Unemployment may be going higher, but what is it in our area? When we come out of the recession (within a year/two at most) we will see expansion in areas that can handle it best, first. Our area has grown from a few thousand residents to over fifty thousand in ten years. The infrastructure is catching up, slowly, and the sites for new retail construction are ready and approved. Home Depot may be delayed but for the small number of stores they are closing nationwide they are opening four times that amount. Gas has dropped to almost a third of its high. Retail prices have dropped. We have a change in administration coming, which is good whether you voted for them or not. Emphasis on job creation, new technology, infrastructure improvement, and restoring American pride is what we now are focusing on. Guess what, we live in one of the fastest growing, highly educated, diverse areas in the nation. So, do you think the turn around will start in the middle of Idaho? Or, do you believe, like I do, that our economic turnaround will occur in our own backyard. If I was a developer, I would be applying for permits and getting ready to build when the credit market loosens up. Because, those who are bold will realize success. Sorry for the soapbox, but I haven't written in awhile.
