From the Journal Messenger

"Preliminary site plans have been submitted for Rollins Ford Park, which would ultimately bring more soccer fields by the spring of 2015."

I thought this was to be a community park. More soccer fields? I was excited to read about the completion of the Broad Run Trails, thought a community park would be a great start or stop. Very disappointed. Instead of peace and quiet, more noise and traffic.

If you search this forum this has already been discussed at length.... The consensus seems to be that because one of our supervisors has ties to the Virginia Soccer Association, we're gonna get it no matter what we want. There was a park commission meeting last year where this was discussed and the opposition of the residents in the immediate area was brought to light - however the VSA packed the meeting with their members, many of whom are not local to the proposed field, and consequently we lost!

Oh sure... people not from the area were begging for the soccer fields. Uh huh.

Does anyone value open space anymore? I checked. There are over 40 soccer fields on the western end of PW County. Where are the facilities for those of us that don't have kids playing soccer or other field sports?

Wasn't it (proposed fields) also a way to force the state to improve Glenkirk road? It's complicated, I suspect.

Half way down in Bristow is not in the area to those of us in Morris Farm and Ellis Mills who were/are getting it litterally in our back yards....

Can you please tell me more about the "completion of the broad run trails"?

I run on these trails frequently, but only a small part--I can't seem to figure out where the rest of it is!:)

I mostly run in the part that goes from near Grace Life Community Church, through the woods, and ending up on Sudley Manor, near Arbys. Then I'll run from Sudley Manor, through the woods, ending up on Braemar Pkway.
I am aware of a section of the trail that starts across the street from there (Sudley Manor) and goes behind Dunbarton. I've walked through there, going behind some type of clubhouse for the Dunbarton community, then follow it a bit longer and the trail just seems to taper off--I end up somewhere that looks like if I go any further, I'd be in someone's backyard!
It's been about a year since I last tried that section of the trail, so I don't know if it's been developed more? Does anyone know of a place where I could see a map of the entire trail system? Thanks!

Do you realize Chuck that the nearest soccer fields are north of Haymarket at John S. Long Park? So anyone near the new Rollins Ford park whose kids are in soccer were going to push for it. That means people in Bristow, Vint Hill, Nokesville, etc etc. Just because they aren't in "Gainesville" or your "backyard" doesn't dismiss the need for more soccer fields. You're just another NIMBY. Rollins Ford is on the border between Gainesville and Bristow FYI.

Sarah,
Ask your supervisor why the fields were not built in a more appropriate place, like in the neighborhoods where they were proffered. Oh that's right, just like letting Brookfield off the hook for finishing the Rollins Ford Road project in Morris Farm, land set aside for fields IN communities were swapped out or watered down. Just so the folks in Morris Farm and Glenkirk know, finishing Rollins Ford is NOT on the to do list. Your stuck, but, Brookfield gets the green light to build more communities while the sucker taxpayer continues to foot the bill for all the infrastructure to support it. And just for the record, these fields will be utilized by about 3% of the county's population, but it represents a much larger percentage of the PA budget. Gotta love the balance.

I take it you don't know that Brookfield paid for their part yet Drees and some other builder didn't put their $$ in to finish Rollins Ford. So the county pays for it. It's on the "10 year to do list". So go ask the other home builders who built along Rollins Ford why they didn't foot the bill to get it finished.

Why are you asking me to ask this? I haven't said anything about the fields, I was asking about the trail. The person you quoted was someone else entirely, not me.

That portion of Rollins Ford was the builders responsibility to make it four lanes. Supervisors let them off the hook, and they will let them off again. You really need to become more informed. The county paid part of Rollins Ford is the part they intend to extend thru to Vint Hill, not improving the original portion. Who will get the most use? Traffic cutting thru PW County, or all the homes WC wants to have built in the rural area.

My apologies Sarah. I hit the wrong section. Call the Park Authority, or Wally Covington, they are the ones crowing about the completion because talk is cheap. No one that wants that kind of park upgrade yells loud enough. It is a joke. If you don't use ball fields in this county you get nada.

Your anger might be better aimed at the educational system, apparently it failed you. A post like yours, lacking punctuation and clear arguments, does nothing for your cause.

If a park is inevitable, then I'd like to at least see softball fields. Softball fields are definitely sparse in our end of the county.
