I'm a "ole timer" here in Hayesville. I have supported the following sheriff's: Neal Kitchens (D), Hartsell Moore (R), Tony Woody(D) and Joe Shook (D).

This year I support Vic Davis!! He is a man of high moral turpitude and a Great American!! I am for a better Clay County.

I lived in Rockdale Co when Vic Davis was sheriff and the dept had a few scandals including using their helicopter to fly a young lady to a softball game. Their were other events involving a deputy he hired to a position of high rank being arrested. The helicopter was military surplus but upkeep and training a pilot for an unneeded toy that was not needed as larger adjoining counties would be of service if needed. Even with that said Mr Davis seems like a god person who like all of us has made mistakes.

Tom, you are probably correct, but if we got into mistakes that all of the sheriffs in Clay County have made, it would take a couple of pages to enumerate.

does anyone do back ground checks on the people that run for offices in clay county or do we all just take them at face value and take their word for it. i would like to see it in print so the people would know exactly what they were voting for and what to expect down the road.

by the way did you hear shook fired that ferguson girl during the election, found out it was the day after that full page ad hit the streets; sounds like he's running scared to me after all he only beat her by a little over 400 votes and now these votes go to Davis. I might be dumb, but he's not the sharpest pencil in the box either. I guess I'd want to fire her for running against me too, but I'd have enough brains to wait until after the election. Another brainless move on his part.

i would have sent her packing a long time before then what would you do if someone was trying to take your job. would you not get rid of a back stabber and someone that was degrading your position. obviously sha didnt like the way he operates the department. she was one of the problems so would you not want rid of a person that was degrading your ways. i think joe was a very good to her for letting her stay until after primarys. what makes you think the votes she got will go to vick davis you must be a moron to think that all the democrats that voted for her will abandon their party and vote for a republican. not happening. JOE SHOOK FOR SHERIFF.IS THIS YOUR FINAL ANSWER? YES FINAL ANSWER.

If she was THAT BAD, then we have a sheriff who knows not what he is doing by hiring her. And letting her stay that long. If he is no better judge of a person than that, then I say "Bring on Vic Davis!!"

not worth wasting our time over time over this subject. no doubt davis is probably a fair and good person,i have nothing at all against him. i hear if he won he is going to put arrendale and kip ledford back on the force(bad call) this alone would cost him dearly but we all know that shook will win hands down when election day comes. he has more friends in the county and loyal supporters to himself and the democratic party than davis will ever have as he is virtually an unknown in the county with the exception of church peoples and you see what happened with the alchol vote and all the supposedly church going people. half of the ones that were against it in public voted for it in private due to the fact that they thought it might have a bearing on their tax evaluations and save them some money which will never happen due to the fact that clay county has a multimillon dollar court house to pay for which was put there by (well old timer you know who) this county will never have its head above water in our life time so i say joe shook for sheriff at least he doesnt have to have a helicopter to get from point a to b. i dont think this county can afford to have any more debt and from what i hear around if davis were to get very lucky(by church people actually getting out to vote) we might be paying for something else not needed.

These are some nice rumors. Hmmm, wonder who started them!!! I sort of doubt most of them, but hey, arrendale and ledford would be a credit to some!!

I went directly to the source and asked about the comments made by Tom of Blairsville, Ga. on the helicopter incident. Vic Davis took office after the incident. This happened in the late 1970's while JT Wallace was sheriff. Vic took office on Jan. 01, 1981. Vic, then grounded the helicopter due to the cost of upkeep on the vehicle. Also the deputy in question had an automobile accident and was arrested for drunk driving, but this happened approximately a year after both Vic and the deputy had retired from office. You, Tom are correct in saying Mr. Davis is a good person. I sincerely hope that only the truth be said about Mr. Vic Davis, because I know he is a truthful and Godly man.

Reply in reference to Mountain Einstien on background checks. I have personally talked to Mr. Davis about doing a background check. He welcomes a background check by anyone. I would be surprised if they could even find a traffic violation against Mr. Davis.

Vic isn't going to put Arrendale back to work, heck Arrendale wouldn't go back to the sheriff's departmet when he can make more money selling a car. Vick is a great canidate for sheriff and will do the job, vote for Vick

I lived in Rockdale Co under Sheriff Davis and He wasted money on one of those free surplus helicopters and the dept had its share of scandal so no thanks on the voting for Vic.

For enough money I will meet you with proof I lived there from 1974-2000. I like Mr Davis was a resident of Rockdale Co and it is good to be from there.

If you say that Sheriff Davis says the helicopter was obtained under the previous sheriff that may be but I believe it was still in use under Sheriff Davis and there were other scandals in his term that helped him lose after two terms. Neither candidates appear to be without some negative baggage but Mr Davis's is more in the past and more obscure to Clay Countians.

Vic Davis would sure beat what we have now for sheriff. I don't think he will go out and buy beer and pizza for his deputies when they are hot and bothered from a drug bust. Speaking of drug busts, I don't think having all the road blocks (checks) will obtain very many drugs. I have personally been through four road checks at the same location in the past few months. It is getting to be a routine thing to meet and have a road check on Friday or Saturday evening. You have to set up a drug task force and work together with other counties to get the "big" drug dealers and traffickers. I don't think all the rumors and "mud slinging" is the correct way to run a campaign. We also need to refrain from guessing who Mr. Davis might hire if he does win the election. I do know he will do his best to get good and honest people working for him. I think he will do a very thorough background check on anyone he hires to do a job for him.I am sure he knows how to run the sheriff's department. I also think he will be very efficient and honest when it comes to taxpayer's monies.
