Review: Mac's Automotive Repair Inc

In addition to having some minor repair work done I had been taking my car to Mac's for several years for state inspections. I used to speak highly of them and even my parents (before they died) would drive from Hampton, VA to have their car inspected as well. Well, not anymore! I took my car there yesterday for an inspection and instead was slapped with a rejection sticker and over $600 in repairs "Eugene" said would have to be done to pass. I should have known it would be a problem when I didn't recognize one person who was working. Prior to taking it there, I thought perhaps one tire would not pass and that would be all. But no, they said two tires were unpassable, a headlight was ready to fall out (Not hardly), my alignment was off, my steering failed, I needed a front wheel bearing, and my WINDSHIELD WIPERS even failed! I The funny thing is the car belonged to my mother who passed away last year and couldn't even drive so the car was seldom used but managed to pass inspection the last several years without a problem. The headlight he failed was one that my father had an accident with 5 years ago before he died and hasn't been touched since but also managed to pass inspection every year. Euegene didn't bother to take the time to show me what he was talking about but quickly scribbled his estimates for repairs on a scrap piece of paper. After I recovered from the shock I walked back into the garage to find out what was wrong with my steering. The other mechanics pointed in the direction of an office where I found Eugene. Eugene would not even turn around and look at me. When I asked him what was wrong with my steering he said, "I don't know". I showed the "list" to my friend, who is a veteran police officer. My friend drove the car and said it drove fine and he could not understand why he said the alignment was bad. He looked at Eugene's repair list and didn't think it made a lot of sense so he went there 10 minutes after I left to speak to Eugene so Eugene could explain and show him what was wrong but Eugene drove off when my friend approached him and would not take the time to speak to him - he said he "had to go". A woman who identified herself as one of the owners said it is because of the State Police have cracked down on inspections and they had to spend thousands of dollars on a alignment machine - that statement right there explained the overkill inspection - have to pay for the machine. My friend has reported Mac's to the State Police.
I was telling a coworker about my hellish visit to Mac's and she said one of her friends who had been there many times before took her car for an inspection and was hit with a $300+ bill. She also had to purchase two tires. She purchased them from Mac's and took her car to another garage for work and they told her that her tires had been over filled and it had ruined the tread in the center of the tire.
I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND MAC'S TO ANYONE ELSE AND I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!
