Hollywood is no longer the film capital of the world. The problem is that 43 other states and Canada have enacted tax incentive laws that lure our local productions to their venues, spending the hundreds of millions in their venues not in California and putting California's great film crews and supporting vendors in financial distress.
It is time for the film people above and below the line that live in this state to speak out and tell our legislators that they must compete to keep California's film and television productions here. The loss of 30 billion a year and 250 thousand jobs is not to be sneezed at.

Barry Klein, the puny bill that was finally passed last year after 15 years of losing multiple billions in film production revenue to Canada and now 43 states does as much to plug the flow of productions as the first cap that BP failed with. We need a matching, level the playing field bill. New York State tripled their incentives last year and they now have 150 television shows pumping hundreds of millions into New York City alone. Meg Whitman has now recognized the problem on page 18 of her magazine presentation limited to job creation recently published. She indicates that 2/3rds of films are now shot outside of California.

They have contributed so much to the industry. It is a shame their agents or director doesn't nominate them and pony up $25,000.
