-an obvious rip-off by unethical, slick, worthless, etc. state legislators, who probably thought "Most of the populace won't even notice, and will not be concerned about a few cents here and a few cents there, and it will add millions of dollars to the state coffers that we can blow like we do with every cent we can get our hands on."

That is a good question. Why is it that grocery stores can tax the CRV tax? It is only a penny per item but those bottles and cans can really add up. It just seems wrong to tax a tax!

It's not the grocery store, it's the Board of Equalization imposing sales tax on CRV. It's my belief that it's an illegal tax and I doubt they will change their policy, but I'm "looking into it". Their main arguement is CRV is an expense to the retailer, thus part of the "gross receipts". The last bit of information I got from them, they included the idea it could be covered by the "use tax" and the two totals, price of merchandise and CRV, is the sale price. It's wrong !!!

The tax is unethical, but not illegal as it was created by the people who make the laws. What can you expect in a state run by the Democrat party, the people who never saw a tax they didn't like.

Taxes on CRV; We are taxed on wages than taxed on taxable ltems than taxed on a bottle recycling deposit. Than asked to use our recycling bins and recycling cans. If we choose to give away our deposited CRV to city recycling we are charged tax to do so. This is a travesty and will be another peg in our undoing.
