A class action lawsuit has begun against the Sundance Institute for theft and fraud.
The festival receives over 10,000 films each year, of which a majority are not seriously watched or considered yet the festival continues to receive over half a million dollars each year in submission fees. 98% of the films chosen for the approximate 100 screening slots, are pre-chosen in advance by each of the 6 head programmers who by their own admission ( video interview) state that they themselves do not in fact watch the 10,000 films.
An independent filmmaker took Sundance to court this year, Sundance did not have to prove that they in fact watch any of the films submitted by mail.
If you have ever submitted a film to the Sundance Film Festival in the last 12 years, you may be eligible to participate in a class action lawsuit to receive compensation and damages.
