Funny how he can afford to get a Lawyer for an Appeal but yet her electricity gets cut off and people have to help her out. Somebody has some money for this. I wonder did he file a fake death claim for Insurance purpose.
Cookie, would not work to file a claim, Meeks would have to have a death certificate or have her declared dead and have proof of her death. And that would go against him in a criminal case of murder-----but he may have had a insurance policy on Hope, but he can never collect on it.

Yeah Pappy, You would be amazed what some people will try though.

If he would have tried to collect insurance then he would be admitting that she was dead! He still maintains that she is alive and well somewhere! Pay attention people and use a little bit of common sense!

Thought you guys might be interested. I checked today on the odds of winning a criminal case on appeal from district court. Couldn't find any numbers specific to Oklahoma cases, but nationally it appears to be 1 in 18. If you find state numbers for Oklahoma, I'd be interested in knowing.

P.S. When I say "winning," that generally means winning a new trial.

Oklahoma and Iowa are different from every other state in the union. In these states, all appeals are filed with the appropriate Supreme Court (Oklahoma has separate civil and criminal Supreme Courts) which then keeps all cases of first impression for itself to decide. It forwards the remaining cases which deal with points of law it has already addressed to the intermediate Court of Appeals.

I've been looking for an hour. Exhausted. It is very difficult to track down specific statistics for any state. I found the percentage "96%" come up several times, referring to the national number of criminal appeals that go nowhere. Damn. Slim.

What makes everything so sad is that the Oney family hasn't for one minute stopped to think that they have taken over someone else's family! Just how do you think they would be reacting if it were Tif missing and another family took over their children and grandchildren... not favorably I don't imagine! Yes Tiffanie, "Karma is a scary thing". I think you just may be beginning to experience it first hand!
I would not stop until I found my baby sister.I would move into her husbands house and we would be out all of the hours of the night looking for her

Why would you need to move into your sister's husband's house in order to search for her? Did you really just say that? Very strange comment. I hope this is someone just being a jerk and not really Tiffanie.

If I lived too far away and thought my sister was somewhere dead or alive, I'd make myself a part of that family, move in if needed, to help find her.

Wish I knew how to explain to Jerry how great it is to be a grandparent. I'm worried he may let bitterness deprive himself of those years. There are different joys in life, but spending time with your grandkids is not something you would ever surrender if you knew in advance how great it is. You will pay a big enough price by losing time with your kids. I, for one, would never think you should lose your grandkids as well. Please don't let bitterness deprive you of some remaining joy in your life. It's no longer about money. It's about time, which can't be bought.

Well then maybe you should have let Hope's sister move in with Jerry instead of you! Better start thinking how you would feel if it were your family! You keep mentioning KARMA, you do know what that is don't you? From your posts I am not sure you do!
