I have lived in McCurtain County since 1967, a few weeks after being born in California. During my lifetime, 44 years now, there have been so many murders I can't recall all of them Most are still unsolved and aren't active investigations.
Please take the time to list any family or friend who has been the victim of foul play in McCurtain County. I will wait for some responses, then list some of my own. WE NEED ACTUAL HOMICIDE INVESTIGATORS! The OSBI can NOT handle the job.

I can support the allegation that the OSBI can't handle this job. Take a look at the Antlers forum and look for the topic "murder on hwy3 by eric blades OHP". Southeastern OK seems to be the armpit of the state when it comes to coruption.

My husband was murdered in McCurtain Co.6yrs ago (July 26,2005) He was shot and killed by Charla Sheets and Billy Paul Dale.
They are both serving time in prison (not enough time). My husband and I have 3 children. 1 of whom will never know her father. She was 1yr of age when her father was murdered.
We (me and my husbands family) asked for the death penilty for Charla. We were told that couldnt happen because she has children.Well suprise suprise so did we.
I only wish this horrible tragedy had happened in Texas....we have an EXPRESS LANE to DEATH ROW

McCurtain, Pusmataha, and Choctaw counties must be considered as well.

A few homicides include:

Idabel attorney Don Stevenson and his wife (suspicious house fire) in November 1977.

Calf roper Ronnie Odell Davis in August 1977.

Hugo attorney James Bounds in November 23, 1977.

Cristi Humphry in 1977 (date unknown), alledgely of accidental carbon monoxcide poisining, although she had wounds around her mouth.

Deputy Sheriff Larry Bob Hobgood killed by ex-Hugo mayor Gene Thomson, who was let go scott-free by Judge Hack Welch.

Ralph Patty and James Earl Cook, December 2

Terry Van Sloan (James Earl Cook admitted to killing)

Herbert White, Wright City. Death ruled accidental shooting, but evidence says otherwise. Coincidentally, White was scheduled to provide grand jury testimony the day after he was murdered.

This is just a beginning of murders that were related to illicit drugs and marijuana, most were covered up by shady law enforcement, including the sheriffs of Pusmataha, Choctaw, and McCurtain counties. Aided and abetted by members of the OSBI.

Mine was the original post on this thread. I just looked after several months and was very thankful that you all have posted your stories and listed names of VICTIMS. McCurtain County and Little DIXIE in general are very dangerous to your health. We are not judge, jury and executioner but there is a culture in McCurtain County justice and it is an undeniable pattern of neglect in investigation, charges and convictions. I live in Texas now and thank goodness we have moved past 1998 and Jasper. Call us Rednecks too, but the death penalty was USED this week on one of the three killers as punishment for murdering Mr. Byrd.

Well, you can add one more to the list.Ruled an apparent suicide[Nathan Farquhar]. The only thing that is apparent to me is it is not being investigated. If only there were law officials that cared that it wasn't suicide.

I remember when mrs Leona's Wooten was murdered in her home nov( I think) 1974. She was a long time friend of my grandmother and she was terrified that someone had been trying to break in. She became a recluse her only relative was a grandson, warren I think, when her body was found if I remember correctly , no break in. It appeared she let them in.. Worried for years. She was scared of her own shadow, she would have only let someone she knew in. Who? No one seemed to care or look very hard for the killer of this frail older women! I still care. Does anyone else care about this very cold case????

Remember Archie trotter ? Murdered where he loaded his bread truck. He still has family in IDABEL. Why hasn't anyone begged for some help from one of the many cold case organizations? Some one murdered a family man for no reason and got by with it . You no DNA works wonders now to solve crimes

Wadie ward comes to mind. Everything about that murder smells and screams cover-up. Judy Parker has always held the key to that mystry. Of course she is probably afraid with good reason , but still for the family and friends to never no how he got to that mountain where he was found sooo long after his death. Want someone do the right thing?

I remember the stevensons murder. Yes I do think it was more than a fire. They had young kids that they loved, it was Christmas, it was no accident. Who knows something?

I find this tread quite interesting as I know of another muder, but it happened in OKC and seems the cops never took time to investigate the murder. In solving a murder in any area it is who got murdered and who that person was in society that determines if it is vigorously investigaged.

Can anyone add any information about any of the above deaths? Maybe with technology as is today, some of these crimes could still be solved. It would be hell to have to live every day knowing somebody got away with murder! Old evidence probably contains DNA that could at least be run thru a data base ?

. All the people I have listed above as unsolved murders, still have close family living there. Archie trotter has a wife, a son , a daughter, have any of you every looked further than the pitiful investigation done at that time? Can old files be accessed?? How do you find them. Poor mrs Leona Wooten can't even be found in old gazette clippings!! She has a grandson Warren Wooten that lives among you. Has he ever looked for his grandmothers killer? My goodness, how do you just go numb and let it go? Are you still afraid? I lost a brother in an actual accident and I wanted to know the details so I could be sure nothing could be done to save him. He was a passenger in a vechical and a wrong move was made, but it still was an accident and it had to be excepted. But you guys, someone did this to your loved ones!

i have many family members that were raised in Oklahoma,smith-ville area to be exact,i was wondering if the following unsolved crime sounds familiar to anyone, the facts are as follows as i have known since i was a young girl,in the 80s a family member of mine has claimed many times over the years that he committed a murder, most often -when he was intoxicated but the story has never wavered and has been a terrible thing to hear about at different times throughout my life,i hope that is not true, but will tell story as it has been told to me,he and a buddy were in a bar that sits close to Arkansas/ Oklahoma border,a young man comes into the bar,he was described as a biker(assuming this is a Harley motorcycle)who started a fight with my family member and his friend, just name calling etc,my family member and his friend leave the bar and wait a ways down the road, not long after victim leaves the bar on his bike- and is followed- and then forced off the road by these two alleged perps,i don't know if a fist fight happens first, but my family member kills the man(i believe with a firearm) and leaves his body in water,i am almost positive that this water was a river as opposed to a lake, they then leave the scene of crime and go home to live there lives,my family member has stated that his buddy and accomplice, was killed a few years later in a hunting accident,he said "he was bummed out when his buddy died but also relieved, because his friend had little control over his mouth when drunk ,and he always feared that his friend would tell someone what they had done".this has been very troubling to me all my life and i have tried to find crimes matching this story over the years, but have been unsuccessful,i would have been anywhere from 8 to 10 years old at the time of these events, growing up to believe matter of factually that this is factual, but hope that its not,i grew up in different part of the country and clearly feel much sadness for any-one that could possibly have lost a son brother, husband, grandson, etc in this fashion and pray to god something like that never happens to me or mine, again,i am not familiar with smith-ville Oklahoma or its surrounding area but wonder if i may be able to help a family with closure, but hope to god its a fairytale of the worst kind, will respond to anyone who recognizes this story, but keeping very low profile due to fear of repercussions,

Truth: the area you are talking about, many things happened there that were never looked at. The body you refer to may have never been found. Most of those folks are mountain people, and that many years ago there wasn't much you could do to get help with a missing person. I doubt there was even a search list and people to hunt for the missing. The resources were not there and moonshine and the "makers" ruled those mountains. Beer joints all along the state lines. bikers, you name it, and everyone Carried a gun. I too was a kid but have good recall of those times in that county. Good luck with your search. Unless relatives are still looking and files exist, the deceased is most likely gone forever.
