Exactly how has the hospital improved itself since the sales tax went into effect? Have they replaced the boilers that they stressed needed replaced a decade ago? What exactly has been done except asking for the resignation of their only surgeon and closing ICU? Wasn't keeping ICU open one of the things they campaigned with to get the tax?
The sales tax, about $60,000 per month, is being used to help pay current operating costs while the hospital tries to make enough money to gradually pay about $2 million in unpaid bills that Messer left them. In order to get spending in line with revenue, the hospital has already cut about $130,000 a month in spending, and still needs to cut about $100,000 more. Employees are now being furloughed one day a month, which saves about $19,000 per month of that $100,000. The hospital probably doesn't want to say so publicly, but a lot of its ICU patients have been drug overdoses, which are often not paying customers. We have much more of that happening here than people realize.

Well, Messers Legacy, since you seem to be in the know, can you kindly explain to me what else has been done to lower spending? Have they cut the pay for all management personnel? How many people do they have in management at that extremely small hospital? Have they looked into down-sizing management? That place has always had too many chiefs. There are too many nurses in management or office positions. Have they ever replaced the surgeon? Surely, scopes and other minor surgeries done on a daily basis would increase revenue. Do they still pay an operating staff to remain on call for c-sections only since there are no other surgeries possibly taking place? Is there any way to find out the salaries of the management staff at the hospital? Surely there is since it is now funded by tax dollars. Is it true that the hospital is such a trainwreck that no other company wants to take over management?

Also, Messers Legacy, you might want to stop blaming everything on Messer because everything he did was with the tacit approval of all the management at the hospital who surprise remain the management of the hospital. I am not saying that he does not deserve blame, but so does everyone who blindly sat back and allowed the damage to be done. That especially includes the DON, board, and hospital attorney who were either a part of it or incompetent (this includes those who were "scared". If you are management, cowardice equals incompetence.)
