I'm glad she is speaking out. PMC is an absolute hellhole - I've personally witnessed things in their ER that would make your hair curl!

These things will happen in a unionized healthcare environment. It becomes that much more difficult for supervisors to hold nursing staff accountable for quality of care. Why should they worry, the union will protect their jobs. Some businesses just shouldn't be unionized.

I agree but would like to expand no unions to all occupations. Generally if you peform in your job, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Also, in unions there seems to be no incentive to go above and beyond one's job duties.

As a nurse, I am held accountable by The Standards of Practice, by the Nursing board which holds my license. Sometimes a union can be necessary, Management is not always looking out for patient safety, nurses are. Sometimes Unions can be good, by holding management responsible to adhere to SAFE practices. Management in some hospitals wish to have LESS staff than is SAFE to care for patients, or have unlicensed staff care for these folks. Unions in that setting make sure that doesn't happen. They don't protect our jobs if we screw up, we are all held to the same standards of working, but ensures management doesn't endanger the lives of patients all in name of the almighty dollar...

Nurses work hard. Unions help protect patients and nurses in that setting, management is not always your friend. The things they try to get away with would curl your hair, the union then can step in and stop unsafe practice before it starts. Management at some hospitals would staff with unlicensed personnel, endangering both licensed staff and their patients. Nurses are held accountable by the Standards of Practice which is governed by the Board of Nursing, if we screw up we are held accountable as we should be. Nurses care about their patients, management sometimes cares only for the bottom line and they don't care about the safety/security of their staff or their vunerable patients.

I to am a nurse and I worked in a non union place and let me tell you I wish I had a union in there to make sure the company would staff to the safety of the patients and not what the law says is the legal minimum. But the idiots who write that it is the unions fault do not know anything about nursing or unions.....and we are accountable to the state not just our employers if there were more unions in the job places they would not make nurses work 18 hrs because they are short staffed and dont want to hire other people. It is all about saving money for the company and not the safety of the people.
So for all you who thing unions are bad and that we nurses are not doing our job walk in our shoes for a mile and let me know....we do our best with out the resources we need if you want to blame some one blame the administration of the hospital and not the workers........and next time you want to blame a nurse take a step back and look at her working conditons ie. no breaks, no staff to help her to high patient load.. no one to relive her

Unbelievably bad ER. Doctors actually make fun of patients who are in pain. They treat people as if they are faking their conditions so they can get medication. Dr Richard Cornish is the only good Dr. in the ER. Also, communication is very bad. My husband had chest pain and we went there because if he had a heart attack and needed surgery I knew Dr. Zama was excellent. They told me he was not having a heart attack but promised me that if I went home they would call me if anything changed. Next morning I called and found out the he had indeed suffered a heart attack when I called them at 7am. I would have stayed with him if I had known or come back if they had called me like they promised. My husband could have died alone. I felt very guilty but also angry. I heard that Dr. Zama has left so now there is absolutely nothing redeeming about that place. Don't go there.

Pocono is the worst hospital in North east pennsylvania. It is run by a nurse and a number of poorly trained old physicians with big ego"s and subpar training. The continue to recruit great physicians who leave in 1 to 2 years because they realize the hospital provides horrible care. This is why no quality physicians stay. They cannot retain quality physicians.
