Shame on you Wes, and shame on the school system ,if they let you by with this. I'm glad I don't have a child running, or in your classroom. Its scary to think what you teach behind closed doors, especially to children that are special. Man up.....JUST WALK AWAY FROM COACHING...HANCOCK CO. HORNETS DON'T ACT THAT WAY, SO WALK AWAY.....

The cross country team held there invitational meet, and the team placed third. they took a vote and decided as a team to smash there trophy because they were mad that owensboro catholic beat them.. Coach, agreed with the team, and in his article in the clarion he stated he thought that they were going to destroy the trophy in private not in front of 200 plus people....How horrible show of sportsmanship was that and them he's going to make the kids write letters to the teams. My question is what kind of coach, would do this, my answer is a very, very poor one. Teaching the team sportsmanship should be first...Also H.C.H.S. C.C. needs a new coach..

Get over it ppl what they did wasn't that bad. they cld be on drugs or out drinking. So what they broke a trophy in front of everyone and the only ppl bitching about it are stuck up snobs from hc.

I think the problem here is with the coach not the kids. You have a great point of view about life though. Its like saying Im glad my kids just steal cars , they could be bank robbers.
Maybe have someone from Hancock county explain that to you. You probably wont get it.

My son is a younger runner on that Xc team, and I believe that's a poor showing of how a team is supposed to be. So you got 3rd? That's not that bad. You go out and you work harder and you beat them next time. You dont destroy a trophy that one of the Xc mothers purchased. That's disrespectful and a very bad display of sportsmanship. And for the coach to condone that is even worse. Coach Meserve needs to learn what sportsmanship really means and teach those boys some manners. Personally, my son has been taught better than that.

How exactly do you know a mother purchased the trophy? As far as I know, I'm pretty positive not a single parent spent their own pocket money to personally buy the trophy theirself. Is that not what FUNDRAISING is for?

I also think that if you have a problem with meserve, why not CONFRONT HIM about it instead of putting it on this website ESPECIALLY SINCE QUITE A FEW OF YOU ARE PARENTS OF KIDS ON THE TEAM! Its not like you dont see him when you go pick your kid up.. It would do you a lot better than sitting here bashing him an whatnot ;)

Any coach who condones that type of behavior whether in public or private should be reprimanded in some fashion. Young kids lead by example & this coach basically told these kids that it was ok to destroy property if they're not satisfied with the results. It was good that the coach was honest about what happened but the kids aren't the only ones that should be writing apologies to the other teams, the coach should as well. The coach should learn from this & be given a warning for his behavior & b made to take a ciloaching class or behavior class. He should not get off Scott free for this that's for sure. Parents have the right to b concerned about who is coaching their children & what kind of role model that person is. If this is his coaching method then he would not b considered a good coach. It was ok for these boys to not b happy with 3rd place but if ur not happy with something then the lesson should've been to try harder not destroy property.

I was on the track team several years ago and coach meserve was a great coach and taught me a lot of things. Everyone makes mistakes. He didnt not have bad intentions. Every team has jokes and things they do without parents knowing about it. It has nothing to do with how he coached the team. He was obviously good enough to coach them to a 3rd place finish. Kids do alot worse things and get away with it. Im sure it was the kids idea and he let them make that decision. That a part of growing up is making your owen decisions. Like i said before everyone makes mistakes. That doesnt make them horrible people and it definately doesnt mean that he should be replaced. He is a good coach bottom line.

Hancock County, Kentucky unsportsmanlike conduct! Seriously, or should I say the country of Hancock County because Ky law holds no bounds here. I cannot believe a county where parents condone underage drinking parties, the youth smoke pot like it' s legal (last I checked it's still illegal in Kentucky) has unsportsmanship like conduct as well. Would you just look at that, I mean just look at it. I mean, in Hamcock County youth can go to the smoke shop and buy them a snassy lookin bong, pipe, bowl etc and cheech and Chong it in style. The school drug testing program must be nonexistent in the county. Unfortunately, it takes a tragedy to open eyes that are blinded by misguidance. Hancock is its own little world.
