I heard the list included: Jerry Wilson, Terry Branham, Travis Olsen, Larry Bauder(incumbent). The positions up for grabs are Larry Bauders and Bob Borchers.

4 people for 2 spots, at least they will have to prove themselves to most of those who vote.

Where do these people stand on issues? Is there any info available about them? Seems like some of the candidates are "less" than ideal.

Who is 'less than ideal'?

We already know where Bauder stands.

Wilson has a website www dot vote4jerry dot org and also a store downtown, go ask him.

Branham works at Caseys, stop in and ask where she stands.

Olsen, not sure where to find him.

How would any one know where Bauder stands. Watch the council meetings, all he does is warm a seat and vote the way the city manager wants him to. So hows that worked out for the town? They all appear to fiddle while she burns.

We should expect "fairness" when it comes to bashing candidates, so I expect tobe reading your posts bashing all the candidates, not just Bauder.

So what is the big problem people have with Gary. I watch the meetings and he seems to be fixing broken crap and trying to improve a lot of the infrastructure in the town.

I agree that Bauder just sits there and doesn't bring a lot to the table.

Wilson I question. He was let go as ambulance director because, well, it was pathetic. Is he really running because of bad feelings with that. His website talks about some but it says nothing of the streets, electrical, water, hospital, or anything of subsistence.

Terry is obviously against the street projects. Yeah, their fine. Whatever.

I don't know anything about Olsen.

If the streets and electrical projects are things that people think we shouldn't be doing then I have a couple things to say about that. After the snow melts in the spring everyone's lawns are full of asphalt that came from the streets. The only towns in the area that have worse streets than us is Hudson and Chatsworth. And at least their streets are flat. The speed limit is 25 on most streets but we cannot even drive THAT fast because we will bottom out at intersections and bounce all over. We will be riding on gravel soon in many parts. If you think paying for them is the problem then you probably have an entitlement mentality. The amount the curb owner is paying is pathetically low. Property tax here is lower than all towns of comparable size by more than 100%. Yes home values are low as well. Our electrical is also in dire need for improvements. We own them and have to maintain them, if we don't the electric company may require us to do it without our choice and then it may not be the best time to borrow the money, which we have to do because it is a huge amount of money. Doing what we are doing now, replacing as it goes to crap, is extremely expense in the long run. That goes for the streets also.

I agree that the city need to get out of the way of business but we also have to be competitive with the surrounding towns. One way to do that without the city is to make our town more presentable to prospecting companies. If they drive into town and see homes that look like shit, they generalize and think that is a direct reflection of the owners and ultimately the town. I am not saying that is correct but that is what happens. They want hard workers that will be responsible and that they can show to their clients. If you are going to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars or more into a community you want to make sure that you make the right decision. Appearance is the first thing they see and if they don't like it the will just drive to Sioux Center, Rock Valley, or OC. This brings us back to the roads and the electrical. Manufacturing, the bread of economies (along with farming) requires strong infrastructure to survive. If our power is inconsistent or doesn't care enough power they cannot do business here.

There are a ton of things that influence our towns economy, of which we only have control over a few. We need prioritize those and do them. Teamwork is how you win.

2 hours after this trash is posted and I get a phone call, got to love a small town! I hate this website with a passion, but some times the record needs to be set straight.

First of all, I was not 'let go' as you libelously claim,'voter'. I resigned, like others who were under Tuckers administration for many reasons. If you would like to know why you are more than welcome to ask me, in person.

As far as the ambulance being 'pathetic' please inform me of what you found pathetic in the 5 years (November '05 to December '10) I directed it. If you cannot, I will understand. If you wish to talk about a particular call be advised that because of HIPAA I may not be able to answer your concern or outright fallacy.

You are more than welcome to register at vote4jerry.org and post your questions.

As is the case with politics, People need to hear, see, touch, feel what the candidates have for an agenda and then make a choice. I agree that information about the candidates is lacking and Jerry Wilson has taken a stance, ie his website. None of the others have. When you join a cause it gains strength. Make your choice but be very aware of background material. This city has a long history of rubber stamping projects that usually are cut and dried before the public finds out about it. One new Council member isn't going to make that much difference in the day to day decisions. Two new members may be able to sway some decisions but I don't see that happening very often. Just some ramblings of my own thoughts, not a command performance.

I've got some doubts about this election. Has anyone seen any interviews in any local papers or did I miss them? It seems to me that someone should be publicizing something to do with the candidates. Their stances, backgrounds, agendas or anything. Yes I know Wilson has a website and has stated a few of his plans and Branham has a few signs up but She needs to be out campaigning as does Olsen. It sure seems to me that this election is a hohum whatever affair. Am I reading this right? People are going to vote for someone who doesn't care enough to campaign? Are we going to have to hold our noses when we vote and hope that we get someone who cares and will put more effort into the position than they are into running for it????

For those that can't make that forum, I hope they run it on the TV like they did the school board forum.

Election is on Tuesday.

Does everyone know who they are voting for yet?

I think Olsen and Wilson are a good fit.

If you missed the forum it is on the city website now

After reading the price that will be assessed for the streets to the home owner does anyone know what Terry, Jerry and Travis stand on the issue. I assume that Larry voted for it since he is currently on the council. But if he is not then correct me on the issue.
