I live on the Highway down from the fire station. I have noticed the past several month many of the fire and ambulance folks speeding way to fast to their fire station. I know you have to get there quickly but the safety of our streets and our children are at stake. Last night the Ambulance had a call and there was a large red pickup truck flying up the highway at an extremely high rate of speed with flashing headlights. That jerk is going to kill somebody. There is no reason for that kind of speed going to an Ambulance call. This has to be the 4th or 5th time I have seen this particular individual doing this. Should the city or the police be notified. I am afraid of someone getting killed.

You want them speeding if it were you or your family member who needed the help.

At least the fire & ambulance people are not doing the same thing that cop did during the parade!

This speeding thing is not just a fire/ambulance problem. I'm sure they have been warned numerous times. Maybe if the dude in the big red pickup was ticketed for speeding, he might slow down, but then from what I have heard, the rules don't apply to him. Go figure!!

Some peoples ability to judge speed is... well... a little off. I was once accused of doing 70 mph on a 4 wheeler! Keep in mind that I'm about 300lbs and the 4 wheeler was a 300cc, I was lucky to get the thing to 30 going down hill.

My point is that while some responders have lead feet, most of the time they are not going as fast as people claim.

There are many actions that can be taken if this is a real concern to someone. They could contact the fire chief or EMS director with their concerns (the number to the fire station is in the phone book if you do not have Jon or Matts phone number).

If that doesn't seem to address your concern after at least 2 months (they have to address this to everyone at meetings) then you can go to Gary Tucker and complain to him. He loves it when people visit his office regarding concerns within the community (seriously, I think he does).

If that doesn't satisfy you there is always a city council meeting. There you can have 5 minutes to complain without going to the trouble of getting on the meeting agenda.

I hope they do something. I have called and complained about this same person several times and nothing is being done. I guess I have to take it to the next level. On a good note my son in law "the state trooper" told me he would look in to this more. I know they need to get there quickly but when your running folks off the road, Come on guys, play it safe!!!!

Hey confused.I was talking about the guy that got run off the road by the idiot in the big red pick up truck. Why is it when some one has a legitimate complaint People have to come on here and make fun of people instead of having a meaningful discussion. Unfortunately this is the only topix town like this. If you got o all other towns topix sites you will find folks talking civil. I guess the people from Hawarden wanted to be noticed for something, Now I realize why I should have never moved here in the first place. I told the people that warned me that they were wrong and that Hawarden was a nice community and then I see people getting run off the road and deal with morons like you on here..Thanx

Sarcastic comments are what causes morons and idiots to be recognized. there really is no good excuse for sarcastic comments when someone is actually concerned for the cities safety. How can this be so confusing?
