I'm facing homelessness by this spring. Why? Because all I have is social security. I had to go on disability 12 yrs. Ago. I've been laid off many times but always found. A job. Then physical ailments happened. So, not a great deal of payments into s.s. and now is all I have for an income. I could rent an apt. Buy with little to survive on(mostly food), No help from my family, which abandoned me. I was the only caregiver of my family to our mother, which is why I remained living with her. Our mother had to do a reverse mortgage for an extra income because my 2 well to do brothers would't each contribute ($50) each monthly that a reverse mortgage not be done. Both could take me in for an additional income, but for reason/s I don't know, have'nt taken me in. My mothrt reassurred me onr of them would take me inyo their home when she dies. Now that she's gone, I,m ignored. They know well my situation and treat me as some stranger. What hurts most is. I would help them if one or both was "down and out". It was their mother to! I turned down an affordable place to remain with her as a caregiver. Both brothers live neatby, one 1mile away, the other 6 miles. It was strenuous to care for her-lack of sleep, doing chores and errands, even with health aides (3 times weekly). I became so worn out, she was removed from her home into a hospice unit when she wanted to die in her home. Had my brothers helped, she could have died at home. I'm scarred as hell about my nearfuture life. Being homeless. I called a few agencies. Each said they can't help me. And these places are about helping seniors/disabled!

Also, the younger brother ignored her long known wish. To be buried in her parents grave. He has her ashes in his home, next to our fathers ashes. He wanted his ashes scattered. That wish also ignored. I have almost no contact with one brother, none with the other. Even other families treat their members (even those with criminal backgrounds) get better treatment than I get. I'not drug user nor a drinker, quiet, keep to myself and told them I can add $400/month to their monthly income. And help around the house. My sister in law can'drive. Should my brother become ill, I would be there to drive. I did that for her before. And she's not so great with handling household bills should he be ill. No,they assume one of their neighbors will do those things.
