Given her psychiatric problems, she should not be driving. The juudge should have taken her license away for the rest of her life.

She would probably continue to drive anyway.

Maybe next time she will run over the judge.

Using the judge's strange logic, this woman should be committed to a mental hospital because she is a danger to the community. At least take her driver's license away.

And this is a surprise to everyone because...?

Similar to that joke of a sentence that drunk and high teenager got for killing two women in that traffic crash in Waimanalo in January 2007.

This will never change, until people start demanding it from state lawmakers.

Remember...In Hawaii...there is NO justice...JUST US.

I agree with taking her license away and having her committed to a mental hospital!

The judge also listed Kane's mental treatment history, including two suicide attempts, four psychiatric admissions to Castle Medical Center and a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and other "psychotic features."

This woman had a driver's license?

That's what happens when you have bleeding heart liberals running the state. They can see silver linings in a pile of mud.

The fact this mentally disturbed woman has a driver's license and can control a vehicle weighing several thousand pounds on public streets is no surpise, Hon.

In this State you can drive even if you are 93 years old!

Almost a century old, and you can still drive a car that demands fine motor skills, eye hand coordination and which could seriously injure or kill innocent people.

Another case of justice going horribly wrong. Now - we hear she was robbed, beaten and possibly raped and being chased by 3 men. How come this info never came up before? The prosecutors never followed up (apparently) and she was let go. The judge cites her "mental" history. Why is this woman allowed to drive with all this stuff in her life? 2 young lives lost..and she walks away with a small fine. Auwe, Hawaii, auwe!

Age has very little to nothing to do with a person can operate a motor vehicle, hon. It's not an issue of age, but an issue of responsibility and mental faculty, hon. I know plenty of teenagers and young adults who have great eye-hand coordination (due to growing up on video games) who are far more dangerous behind the wheel of a vehicle weighing several thousand pounds than 60, 70, and 80 year olds, hon. What you think about that, hon?

With your logic, she had every right to be negligent and kill these two kids just because (she used as a lame excuse) she (allegedly) had something bad happen to her.

There are many people who have been raped, molested as a child, raised by abusive parents, ritually abused, robbed, nearly killed, etc... who still believe in being responsible for their own actions and that their past is no excuse to be negligent and harm others. You have a LOT of personal growth to do, friend.

Sounds like more reasons to institutionalize her. If not prison, the funny farm!

What a pathetic judge.

"The victims' family members, in tearful testimony, asked not for vengeance, but justice." As unfortunate as the loss of these two lives are, the families should have known that the justice system in Hawaii is severely flawed and the benches filled with bleeding heart liberals. Only in Hawaii can we say, "Crime Does Pay," especially if you kill somebody. Your payment? Being allowed to walk free in a society of otherwise law abiding citizens.

Once again Hawaii justice = no justice.

Crazy lady kills 2 people and gets no jail time. Welcome to paradise? Well it is if you want to kill someone. Then you can get away with murder (times two).
