Letters to the editor - Letters

There are 16 comments on the Honolulu Star-Bulletin story from May 31, 2009, titled Letters to the editor - Letters. In it, Honolulu Star-Bulletin reports that:

Is Gov. Linda Lingle so myopic she can only focus on state workers to make up for the $180 million budget shortfall? Instead, she could ask the Legislature to: 1) Create higher-income tax bracket for the less-than 3 percent of Hawaii's population that make over $250,000 for individuals and $400,000 for couples; they can readily afford it.

Robyn: I'm from Del Mar, San Diego, CA. Before moving to Maui, I was almost in a knife fight on the beach by Jakes and "Dog Beach" by some women who were smoking and just thru their butts into the sea. I confronted them, who them dispatched their husbands, who then called the lifeguards. I won. Cigarette smokers have to be the dumbest people on earth, and tossing their butts on Hawai'i beaches, roadways, sidewalks, is just more evidence how stupid they actually are.

Amen,

Then when they leave, there is all kinds of debris and empty bottles where they were sitting. Makes you wonder what their homes and cars look like and how they would like it, if we treated their homes the way they treat our beaches. No consideration for others.
Just drive down any of our roads and you will see trash like no where else. Where are the great protectors of the "aina"?

I would imagine that since the locals believe that their aina was stolen, they have no will to protect it. It's not the visitor who disposes of old cars, refrigerators, car batteries, old tires, etc. along our highways. It's not just the locals who dispose of their cigarette butts, bottles, cans, empty food containers, and numerous other items along our beaches. IT's EVERYONE who just doesn't care. I just wonder if Dargent 77 would have been so forthcoming if it has been someone leaving a soda can or liter bottle on the beach. How about an empty potato chip bag? Or an empty sun lotion bottle. I can't help but wonder if those who complain about our environment have ever improperly disposed of an item. Hum!

A pig is a pig(no insult to the animals) and a clod is a clod, no matter what they may deposit on the beach or where that beach is. If you dump your trash on the beach or in a ditch on the street where some people live you are no better than that trash. I feel badly for the people in Hawaii but the same sort of crap goes on where I live in Washington state. These lowlifes are plain disgusting.

The concept of smoking has always struck me as odd, especially with all the medical info out there. I agree with the visitors that the beach vendors are often sseen smoking and butts are everywhere. Lets face it, Hawaii has really become third world in every aspect and its simply no longer the Paradise of the Pacific. It is now basically an Asian slum...

Aloha:

The long-range solution of course, is education and medical help.

Smokers are addicts, just like those addicted to alcohol, and illegal substances.

They need help.

If you know someone who is addicted, help them.

A smoke-free Hawai`i could be a health mecca for the whole world, a utopia.

Banning smoking on the beach is a good start, a step in the right direction. It is so nice now to be able to choose a restaurant in which to dine without having to call in advance to inquire as to whether or not their air is polluted with smoke and carcinogens.

Doesn't matter if the teachers get a drug test or not, they still can't teach.

Hawaii Muslims !

Explain THIS ! ESPECIALLY the LAST LINE !

FROM THE KORAN:
--The unbelievers are your inveterate enemy.(4:101)

-- Mohammed is God's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another.(48:29).

-- It is unlawful for a believer to kill another believer, accidents excepted.(4:92)

-- Believers, take neither the Jews nor the Christians for your friends.(5:51)

-- Make war on them until idolatry shall cease and God's religion shall reign supreme.(8:40)

-- Fight against them until idolatry is no more and God's religion reigns supreme.(2:193)

-- The true believers fight for the cause of God, but the infidels fight for the devil.(4:76)

-- We will put terror into the hearts of the unbelievers.(3:151)

-- I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers.(8:12)

UH...no wonder your so confused...you have to read the verse in it's whole...don't just stop at on line and not complete it. Didn't you learn in school, that you have to read the verses in whole to understand it's meaning. BTW, are you even a muslim?

Assalamu alaikum & aloha...
