yes. The utterly important football coach is going to get over a million dollar pay and that dwarfs the Governors. If that is not bad enough some legislators who support that insane pay then have a problem with allocating 20 million dollars for a homeless shelter that will serve thousands of people.

Shows everyone what is important in our society, doesn't it..........

Perils of Plastic Bags Are Real. Here in the S.F. Bay Area local news reported on a "floating island" of plastic garbage - the size of Texas - that has formed between Hawaii and the Mainland. As the plastic decomposes it breaks down into small floating bits that cannot be collected. It's a huge rotting mess and ecological disaster. Hawaii should step up with San Francisco and ban plastic bags to save our oceans.

Mr. Toguchi is right on the money. Car drivers are very ignorant of the requirements necessary to handle a rig safely.

Mr. Mikesell needs a geography lesson: Costa Rica is in "Central America." One out of two ain't bad!

Truck beepers are not near as bad as screaming sirens from fire trucks and ambulances 24/7. In the dead of night when the streets are totally clear these screaming sirens literally wake the dead. And all those in condos. And there is a new really nasty siren that sounds like a witch being burned at the stake. Bright lights should be used at night vs noise. Drunken/tired drivers have music blasting and can't hear noise, but they can see very bright lights in the dark night. So beepers are nothing!

To be honest with you, I'd rather see our state have a top notch football program and pay a head coach a million plus dollars. Believe it or not, success for the university football team will generate income for the state. Besides, don't you think we are doing enough for the homeless. I don't want to sound insensitive, but I hate it when the person in front of me in a checkout line is buying steaks, poke, and other brand name groceries with an EBT card. I am a public school teacher and there is no way I should be the one trying to save a buck here and there. Talk about having your priorities all wrong!!!

I also agree with Mr. Toguchi! There is nothing worse than those drivers in the lanes next to the truck going the same speed. Don't they know how dangerous it is? They are oblivious. Pass the truck and when it is safe to do so, change lanes if you want to drive slower than the posted limit. I have been stuck behind those idiot cars before, next to a tactor trailer, and I will slow down until I am behind the truck, rather than drive next to it in a blind spot!

Regarding the business & construction noise in Waikiki: did you honestly believe that living in or near Waikiki was going to be peaceful? This reminds me of people who move next to a school, then complain about the bells ringing and the noisy children.

For the German people
02/15

What's that? Again? More crippling, legislation is ready to be passed by Maui county's planning & parks dept? It will devastate even more of Maui's small local businesses and their families? Hundreds will be hurt?
The justification for this ugliness is always the same: We're doing this "for the local people." OK, except that the people being crippled ARE the local people! The people who give Maui it's rich, sweet flavor! Whose small business profits dissolve right back into the local community.
Who wins? Follow the money, who benefits? The hotels? Politicos & their buddies are enriched by developers? Whose side do you think the county is on?
Hitler got away w/ his iron grip by saying,“We're doing this for the German people" & then murdered millions. Whenever you hear the county saying "for the local people" and someone is being made homeless, substitute, "for the German people." Re-elect Mr. No'one!
