Very sad case. While the judge's decision was a tough one, I strongly agree with it. There was no alcohol or drugs involved. Nor was there any malice involved on the defendant's part.
Her history of mental illness is well-documented and a claim of being a victim of an attack just prior to the accident is questionable yet went unchallenged. It could have been a symptom of her bipolar disorder. The judge makes it clear that the defendant must continue her mental health treatment.
Justice tempered with compassion is a noble thing. My heart feels for the loss suffered by the victim's families and for a young girl whose life is also in shambles through no fault of her own.

Is this fair and balanced reporting? Did Kane aim her car at these people on the roadside? This situation ins a horrible one for the victims' families, but surely as horrible for the driver as well. I don't understand how people think anymore.
