Will Page of Kailua completely fails to put a positive spin on illegal B&Bs and vacation homes. Bottom line, they are nothing more than a business. Owners should pay all business related taxes and abide by all applicable business, health & safety codes. Yes, no primary home mortgage interest tax deduction for them either. You will pay business level taxes. Don't like it, don't run an illegal B&B/vacation rental and think you deserve special privleges. Meantime, tell your abusive renter to shut up with the late night parties and quit with the illegal parking. Ahhh, just another day in the little third world of Hawaii Nei.

Will Page. Please explain what jobs will be lost if our temporary accomodation laws are enforced. How can you lose something that was never there.
And face it Will, most of the vacation rental operators aren't paying taxes on their earnings. To claim income from an illegal vacation rental might raise red flags.
Further to Islandboi's comments. These operators also don't pay commercial rates for water and sewage either, or electricity for that matter. They want the benefits of a residential business without the expense of conducting a business. These are only a few of the expenses a hotel deals with. Make the residential hotel operators follow the same rules a hotel has to follow then see if it is such a great deal.

What a looser Will Page is. For some odd reason, he forgot to mention his business promotes vacation rentals. Vacation rentals belong in resort zoning. That is where the majority of them are located on the Big Island. Maybe Will Page should move there!

Mahalo to Glenn Paige for his lifetime of devotion to peace. It is fitting that Kim Dae-jung did the intro to his book, for both have nurtured the vision of a less violent world, and both have risked their reputations to reach out to those that we usually demonize. Both have realized that the goal is not "winning" but winning together through a better future for all.

North Korea has an excellent Government run health care system.

We must learn from their example, and drop our greedy profit seeking ways.

Well, we're getting a bit better in the Biblical interpretation department. But in the full context of the passage, as well as in the full context of Chapter 25, Christ is admonishing individual preparation for coming judgement.

If Fangerís illegal vacation was zero-impact, why did the neighbors file complaints? The truth is all vacation rentals and B&Bís impact our residential neighborhoods by negatively changing the neighborhood's atmosphere and displacing neighbors from our neighborhood. Residential neighborhoods should be for residences, not mini-hotels!

B&Bs were started from mainlanders. Most of them come with $$$,buy a large property/house, and then expect the neighbors to be tolerant of parties, parking, noise, etc. This is not "local". Why not make like the old days, sleep my house for free. Thats the Aloha Spirit.

Aloha:

Less violence, less killing, peace on earth ... yes, all ARE POSSIBLE.

I hope everyone who detests violence and killing will read Dr. Paige's book and join the cause.

It is time to stand up to the warmongers and show them that world peace is possible, and it can begin right here and now, with US. With leaders like Dr. Paige, Hawai`i could emerge as the world's center for peace and non-violence.

Keith,

How's life on planet Utopia?

We can't even get total peace and lack of violence in our own communities and neighborhoods. Some have trouble getting that in their own homes and families. How do you ever expect it achieve it on a world-wide basis?

Like complete purity and perfection, total peace and non-violence are always worthy goals to work towards, but just don't ever expect to actually achieve it. At least not on this side of heaven, anyway.

An idle mind is the devil's play thing.
If you are not busy working towards that goal of peace and loving, then everything in your life will not be peaceful.
