First you should ask Sal Isabella Why he was thrown out of the Selden Fire Department twice and Once from the Farmingville Fire Department. Then maybe Eric Should Ask sal about The Money he stole from his 96 year old Grandmother That made her loose her home after 68 years and now is living on the curb. Then maybe newsday should ask Sal where he lives because it's nowhere near the town of Selden.

If a member of the fire department stole that much money, guess who approves the explusion from the fire department, the ones who hired and swore him or her in. The gold club members.

This case is just another example of how out of control the corruption and incompetence the volunteer fire service is on Long Island. There is absolutely no need to have fire commisioners running these departments.

Why hasnt the chief of the department suspended these firemen from the department for conduct unbecoming, and why are the taxpayers not stepping up to help the firemen that are answering the calls. And why does the commissioners always have to be firemen, school board members arent teachers. And were is the state of new york,in all this, after all a fire district is a munisable extention of the state.

It is a "give me" that almost evey commissioner is also a volunteer firefighter. If a regular firefighter was to have been convicted of a crime, chances are, that firefighter would be dismissed from the department. People outside the world of the fire service on Long Island, have to make a major distinction between those people who get up at all hours in order to respond to emergencies (fire or medical) and the commissioners who play with taxpayer's monies. You can compliment firefighters from the fire department while criticizing commissioners from the fire district. With fire district commissioners, it all comes down to purely greed. In my fire district, there is a commissioner who spends thousands on unncessary out-of-state trips, but is not even a taxpayer!!!! Those that abuse their oath of office should be banished from the fire service. When the residents of Long Island finally admit that enough is enough, then we will go paid like we should.

The volunteer fire service works all over the state of new york and the United States of America. These people who have commited these crimes have to br punished, they are the ones that put in place to protect and serve the community , and the office of commissioner as the office of board member in school districts are unpaid positions of stature. These people are hurting their neighbors ,the very ones they swore before God and country to protect

What hypocrisy! If a new member tried to join the department, and the background check revealed that the person had a criminal record, I don't think the department would have ANY reservation about voting them out. But because these guys are already members of the "old boys club", their criminal conduct will be ignored? The volunteer fire service on LI loves to cry about how they're "persecuted" by Newsday, but when you guys act in this manner - protecting members who have admitted to COMMITTING CRIMES - you deserve all the abuse you get! This is a disgrace to the fire service on LI.

If someone from Newsday read their own stories they would see that the Suffolk County District Attorney negotiated a plea with these men which required that they resign as fire commissioners, enter a plea of guilty to the appropriate crime selected by the District Attorney and pay restitution to the fire district.

He did not require that they resign as firefighters as part of this arrangement.

That was his decision. The current Board and Chief did not negotiate that deal. He did.

Newsday pats him on the back for taking down some currupt officials, but blames the new Board and Chief left to pick up the pieces for a job half done.

The judge who accepted this bargain did not require that they resign from the fire department as part of the sentencing for their crimes.

They lived up to their part of the bargain and now it is time that people stop asking the Chief or the current Board of Fire Commissioners to violate the terms of that agreement and issue a further penalty.

If these men are performing their duties, they have the same right as all other volunteer firefighters to earn credit toward their service award pension.

As for those who want to take away the service award pension they have earned, they and Newsday should read the law that governs the service award programs. The law states that the pension is non forfeitable once vested with the only grounds to take it away being a conviction for the crime of arson.

The only circumstances covered by the law for taking that pension is an arson conviction or a claim for unpaid child support.

It's interesting that many of the people who complain about this are probably public employees with pensions under the state retirement system who know how well protected their pensions are regardless of the terrible acts they may perpetrate after their pension is vested.

The current Chief and the new Board are trying very hard to right the ship and move the fire department forward. It is disappointing that a disgruntled member would drag their names through the mud and by implication others in the fire department.

Newsday has once again lowered itself to be the rag that permits disgruntled volunteers and citizens to carry out nasty slanderous campaigns through the press against other members.

The new Board and the Chief have worked hard to right the ship. Give them credit and give them support. Stop chastising the guys who are trying hard to pick up the pieces and run the district and department as it should be run.

Oh yeah, here we go....that's right, it's EVERYONE ELSE'S responsibility....the DA....the Judge....NOT!!!! It is NOT UP TO THE DA TO CLEAN HOUSE IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. It's up to the members and officers of that department! And if you know ANYTHING about the legal system, you should know that throwing these guys out would not IN ANY WAY "violate the terms" of any "agreement"....plea deals are not binding on any parties except the prosecutor's office and the defendant! Just because the Judge didn't mandate that they quit the fire department DOES NOT mean that the department doesn't have EVERY RIGHT to can their asses! They certainly DO have that right. It's just like the nonsense going on in Oceanside.... instead of GETTING RID of the SMALL PERCENTAGE of vollies who make the rest of you folks look bad, you rally around them and defend them. And that makes ALL of you look bad, whether you like it or not!

If a volunter member stole $1,000 worth of fire equipment off a fire truck and was caught, he would be arrested, prosecuted, and terminated from the department (if he did not resign)! I see NO difference with what the commissioners did. It was fire department/district property ($)and was stolen ! I would be embarrassed to serve alongside these commissioners !

We are professional, just not paid. This sounds like the rant of a career (paid) firefighter that is anti-vollie. Thanks for your support.

Regarding the article, these commussioners should get kicked out of the department. Why have the chiefs not suspended them and brought them up on charges?

These Ass&oles have been steping on their peckers for years. They are a bunch of self serving freeloaders. Most of these guys are washouts who can't make the City Job. Heros my ass. Go to one of their awards night. It is a joke. Boyscout drunks with a million dollars worth of toys. The only property these hacks save at a fire is the stoop and foundation.

You want support. Start acting like professionals. You and your fellow firemen must stop pissing on the people who pay for your private clubs. Stop acting like Fraternity boys. Stop stealing. Cut down on the drinking. Loose the beer belies.Good god is anybody in shape that is a Vollie. Respect is a two way street. You want the public to support you nitwits than stop acting like "TOOLS".
