The police tax for Suffolk as compared to Southampton is very similar and then add another police tax onto Southampton's that is payable to the County for special services. four guys per call? Yeah right, maybe violent calls if you are lucky. Most people are lucky to see one car on a call unlike Nassua which dispatches 2 per call minimum. Yes cops are paid well, maybe even to well but spare me they dont do anything routines. Do some research and see how large the DEPT is compared to when it was formed nearly 50yrs ago. It's the same size , just like Suffolk county population. Funny.

Fire can close the HWY down and handle everything until the local patrol car can come to do the paperwork. The volunteers love that stuff! They can closed that HWY with their chief the first responder cars alone. Dont need much state or local ploice. Will they also do the accident investigations, and deal with DUIs and DWIs? What about evidence, and chains of custody? Will they also make arrests and/or issue summonses? The fire depts. and rescue squads do a great job, but they have their work to do, and the cops have theirs.

Not only do you sound like a "Rocco", but you sound like a PBA rep. too. Afraid of losing ground and trying to muddie the waters for the rest of us taxpayers. Suffolk County taxpayers, including myself, pay the entire saleries of the Suffolk County Highway Patrol (15 MILLION per year!!!). If the State Police take over, the costs get paid by all of the taxpayers in the state of New York. And hey, by the way, if you were such an intellect, you'd realize that landlords recoupe their tax bill from their renters and actually pay a higher tax rate because they don't qualify for the STAR rebate on rental property.

The LIE could have a 4th traffic lane if the under used HOV lane is turned into a traffic lane. It makes no sense. The HOV is always empty except for the few people who drive it illegally.

Still doesn't help if someone is going 80 in the middle land and would prefer the driver to move instead of going to the left lane and pass them. But the fact is that if you're going slower in the left lane than people are in the other lanes, then you have no business being in that lane. Right lane is slow traffic/entering and exiting lane, middle lane is cruising lane, and left lane is passing lane. On a two-lane road, the right lane handles the responsibilities for both the right and middle lane. Where does it state in N.Y. traffic law, or drivers manual, that there is a cruising lane,or passing lane. I always thought people not maintaining maximum speed limit, dictated a need to pass.

Yep-get rid of the HOV lane it doesn't work. All of the traffic is being squeezed into the other 3 lanes. The LIE would be alot safer if we got rid of the illegal aliens driving broken down Hondas on their way to Brentwood.

If it is converted to regular traffic the county and state would have to reimburse the Feds. If we are willing to cough up the money and along with some creative planning the HOV lane area could actually be made into two lanes.

Comeon, when you meet with politicians you always bring a mini tape recorder. This way there is no he said, she said. Steve Levy is savy about how to disprove what someone said or did not say at any meeting. Whey is Steve Levy holding back? Is it because he has aspirations for running in a state wide election? Makes one wonder. Come on Rick Brand, Newsday reporter get to the foggy bottom about this matter. You can do it. You've done it in the past over many, many years.

I could be wrong but I thought I saw Steve Levy in Cherry Grove last weekend with a string bikini on. Did anyone else see him? He came over to me and was like whats up I was like whatever! Your so 80's. He had a bit of a belly and even though he was wearing a banana hammock I was like Hello where's the banana? It looked like he had an innie if you know what I mean and I think you do. I like my men butch not fish. I mean I'm no queen bee I just like my men manly not soft and girlie. So Steve next time try picking up a guy who likes your style.

Levy dosen't care. He dosen't care about the citizens safety. He dosen't care about the police officers safety or the Suffolk PBA. For a man who was once believed to be a help for the people of Suffolk it is becoming more apparent that he is harming our county. Our infrastucture is falling apart and Levy has choosen to fight a battle with the State Government. A loosing battle at that. One similar to that of a two year old holding thier breath till they get what they want. As Levy holds his breath, quite possibly with his eyes closed, our county if floundering like a sinking ship. When this is all over we can sit back and say "Levy really screwed this county up." Levy blams the county police for the county's fiscal problems, but he should blam himself. The County Police Department costs are similar to that of one of the County's larger School Districts and is payed for by the entire police district and Suffolk County. Shame on Levy. He should have a desire to run the county not decapitate the police Department. It seems as if Steve has an axe to grind with the police by destroying the police department. He is also destroying every other County Department and in doing so is destroying our County as he thrives, saving his stippend checks from all his Albany trips. Steve if you want to save some cash stay at a motel six next time you travel on the county's dime!

Steve if you want to save some cash stay at a motel six next time you travel on the county's dime! oH STOP, the highway patrol produces more waste than any other division the SCPD has. They really need those top of the line Harley Davidsons to go cruising around in at the taxpayers expense. They ride around like hells angels with the law backing them up and so they might write a ticket or two to justify a whole day of cruising LI. All the county department are plagued with union waste, mismanagement and funneling of funds. No cops elswhere in the USA draw a six figuire salary, politics have too long played a part in robbing the system. Steve Levy is man enough to fullfill his job duties and cut the slack in this union wasteground. thats more to say than what others drawing a county check are doing.

Let the Troopers Take over.
|
|
it is time
|
People please! stop the maddness! think about it! if the troopers take our local state roads...scpd has more time to patrol local streets which should mean faster response times to our accident calls,... our 911 calls. you name it. We already pay state taxes, we already pay county taxes.. what's the difference? more cops = better saftey

Duh

I don't think there is any patrol on the LIE by either the troopers or the Suffolk police. Today I was traveling in the high velocity lane with my husband. We observed a car from New Jersey weave in and out of the HOV lane several times crossing the double line maybe traveling at 80 mph from Melville to Ronkonkoma where we got off. It felt like the wild west.
