Fire Island will get no extra police this summer

This summer, Fire Island will have to do without extra police officers who in the past have increased enforcement by 25 percent in the resort communities, Suffolk Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said ...

Nice move Dormer, let me see if I get this straight. People on Fire Island pay taxes just the same as the mainland, but they receive a fraction of the county services. I can hear the lawsuits now. "Little Johnny would have been alive but for the 25-35 minute response time by the SCPD" and the delay in gettin him to the mainland. How bout this Dicky? What do you do when the bars in Ocean Bay Park overflow with a fight? Are you going to have ES rappel in via the chopper from MacArthur? To the residents of Fire Island, learn first aid and buy a gun, you are on your own. To the Marine Bureau cops, rule book these morons and await adequate backup. Take care of each other, obviously Ponzo, Quinn and others have sold their souls (what little they had left) for gold plated costume jewelry and sold out your safety for their career advancement.

"Dock and Walk" .... sounds just like the old "Park and Walk" program. The public should know that these programs are used to make it appear there are more cops. "Park and Walk" is having a sector car go out of service so the officer can walk a foot post. Now the officer is unable to respond to any emergency calls that are near by because he will be no where near his car. But now the PD can tell the public that they have increased foot patrols in downtown areas. What they don't tell you is that the sector car for that neighborhood was out of service for that time. In essence one officer is being used to inflate statistics. Now what happens when officers that are supposed to be patroling the waters in a boat are walking around Fire Island? They will be no where near it if they have to respond to an emergency on the water. What about enforcement of the navagation laws? Sounds like it will be party time for the intox boaters this summer.

Party on Fire Island and do a 110 mph on the LIE and Rt 27 to get the ferry. Should be a great summer. Will the law suits equal the manpower savings?

There used to be two foot patrol officers in Smithtown, now there is barely one who gets put into a sector car. Main Street is being over run by kids. Where are the increased foot patrol officers?

This move is moot....the cops don't do anything anyway, adding more would just give them another person to hang around & bull shirt with. Take a look @ the sgt.'s desk 2-4 any day, 7 to 9 "officers" hanging around flirting with the station house secretary.

What in the f--king hell?

Its time to abolish the county police department and the position of county executive so no idiot can ever do things like this again.

My community of 32,000 people has NO patrol coverage at all at some times of the day.

Have the boat patrol officers dock more often? They already spend hours each day transporting medical cases across the bay to an ambulance... what about drunk boaters, reckless jet skiers, boats speeding through the harbors, and rescues?

An Island that goes from a few hundred in population to up to 100,000 people drinking, partying, swimming, waterskiing, jet skiing and generally out having a good time, and NO - ZERO - NONE when it comes to increasing the number of police officers available to respond from the bare-bones coverage that is given all through the winter?

Dormer, don't you realize you are responsible for the health and safety of tens of thousands of residents and tourists on a summer weekend? Don't you realize what it takes to keep a lid on that powder keg? Don't you realize the logistics involved in responding to a medical emergency on a barrier beach with no raods to speak of, 30 minutes and seven miles from the nearest hospital?

Anyone planning a nice relaxing summer vacation on Fire Island this summer had better THINK TWICE. What happens when your kid gets caught by a wave and breaks a bone, or someone in your family has an allergic reaction, or trips, falls... what happens when the drunken bar fight spills out onto the walk and the cops take 30 minutes to get there?

Spend a weekend in Ocean Bay Park, Mr. Dormer.

Not to metion what will happen when the word gets out that Fire Island is now a free-for-all, no consequence party town. Property values? Tourism?

What does Ft. Lauderdale PD do for Spring Break? Hunker Down and hope for the best? What do East Hampton, Southampton, and Southold Police Departments do when Memorial Day comes around? Do they continue business as usual? or PLAN to have the RESOURCES available to MEET the DEMAND for services?

How very fiscally unsound... they should get the LEVY/DORMER religion, stick their heads in the sand, and let their tourism numbers tank - that'll reduce the demand for services in the future, won't it?

Fire Island doesn't generate any sales tax revenue in July and August, now does it?

Suffolk PBA - stop crying. You guys do S#$T out here anyway. Look at all of you - nothing by BLOATED Blowhards How many jobs do you handle anyway? 2 or 3 a tour. Probably aideds. Stop cooping at the firehouses or behind the diners every Sunday morning in Smithtown (Route 111 and Main St) then you'll have enough of patrol. Readers take a ride this Sunday and see for yourself. 4th PCT C.O. HINT!!!!

But im sure somewhere, with this "dock and walk" program, little Brianna is even shaking her head.
I wonder how many people have to get hurt in a boating accident, where the police were ordered to be "docked" at the time, and it took them longer to respond.
Im sure after the first lawsuit against the county things will change.
I just hope its not my kids on the water that get hurt due to Dormer and Levy's reckless actions.
All boaters everywhere in the county should call the Execs office and demand police services.
All Fire Island residents should call too, and demand more police for the summer season.

Fire Island transforms to a city during the summer. The population is teaming with drunks, noise, and disturbances. For everyone who has invested in costly summer rentals, you are on your own with minimum policeman protection this year. Don't expect peace anr tranquility with the idiots coming over with Bud suitcases.

This is a direct result of the whiners who post above me complaining about their mickey being twisted.
