Rebuilding of Rodanthe beach under study
#1 Nov 22, 2012
Rebuilding the beach at Rodanthe is fundamental to preserving the sanctity of the entire Hatteras Island Coastline. Tourism is the number one industry here and some of those dollars should be used to maintain the beach. Some would call it preventative maintenance, others protection of a life and livelihood to so many. Nags Head has now proven it works and without beaches there will be no tourism.
So many cities up the coast do beach nourishment every year and it becomes a line item in their budget. If necessary, make hwy 12 a toll road to pay for maintaining the beaches. People will gladly add a few bucks to their vacation budget in order to preserve this national treasure and continue their vacation tradition.
If this was New York or New Jersey there wouldn't even be a discussion--projects would already be underway.
