Just an idea, how about an educational program to help individuals to make the most out of their "food cash" . How to prepare healthy, nutritious meals without ordering out or buying processed foods. Bringing the families back to the table.

But wouldn't that be work or an inconvenience? That might serve as a Culture Shock to 1/2 the people of North Adams as they are used to just walking around "palms up" !!

Good point. However most of these people do not walk around North Adams, they have electric power chairs that they drive all over the place in. It is actually quite amazing at the number of young welfare people who have these in North Adams - take note next time. Be careful not to hit any of them - they like to ride in the streets and dart in and out of traffic.

I agree with you a 100 percent.I never seen so many lazy people in North Adams. Its people in their late forties and fifties riding around in the electric power chairs.. I just wonder if the canes some of these people walk around with a new fashion trend....You dont see the elderly people in their 80s driving these electric power chair.I know im sick and tired of supporting these people.they are getting everything handed to them free and give a dime back...Its about the states start cutting back on these programs. Let these people get off their fat asses and work for their things. There is nothing wrong walking to work unless its quite out of your way but when its a mile there is no excuse.Plus its good for you to walk it keeps the weight off.People who walk to work every day are less sick because they get the fresh air everyday.

I know it is a crazy idea but couldn't some of these people ( who don't have a job) be hired by the city on temporary or half time basis? I mean there is so much in the city that could use help. For instance, clean up windsor lake, or create a committe for neigborhood rehabilitation. These people could help revitalize some neighborhoods. You know, in the style of Roosevelt during the great depression. It's a thought, I ignore all the law and logistics to carry it on.

Someone needs to look into the major problem in this city with young people and (Medicaid???) mobility chairs. You see a convoy every couple of days going down to The Salvation Army for free food days. As far as putting them to work - they could pick up the large amount of litter that they all drop between Cumberland Farms and the (former elderly) highrise.
