Hobbs has officially surpassed Las Cruces as the state's 3rd Largest economy for the past year. In a shocking development Hobbs has doubled it's GRT results since 2009 while Las Cruces is dropping. This has happened despite (or more likely because of) Hobbs has the lowest tax rate in the state while LC has one of the highest and seeking to raise the GRT rate even higher. Hobbs has about one third of the population of Las Cruces. Hobbs has now set it's sights on Santa Fe to overcome them as the number two economy in the New Mexico as Hobbs is already over 80% there. It is almost unbelievable that Hobbs has overcome Las Cruces and might become even a larger economy than Santa Fe. Odd, how there has been little news around Las Cruces about this. It was headlines in the Hobbs paper this week.
