If it begins at illegal, it continues to be illegal for as long as that illegal remains so. Period, no spin, no bs.

You are implying that illegals come here for the licenses? We are the only border state that offers licenses but we have the fewest per capita of any border state by far. Yet we are the only border state that offers licenses.
Please explain how licenses attract illegals when we have the fewest illegals of any border state, the fewest illegals of any state that offers licenses, and are #27 in total illegal aliens per capita nation wide?
Every statistic bears out the fact that illegals come for jobs. They also bear out the fact that licenses are not a factor for them at all. We can demand that they not get licenses but we shouldnt fool ouselves that it will help the problem. It will do nothingmore than make us get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that we took them away.
At some point we must address the real issues of the border. Until then we can piddle around with whether or not to allow them to drive.
Didn't Susana say she was going to do something this session? Maybe she is waiting for next year. After all our economy isnt that bad and people still have plenty of jobs (urp!)
The reason that our population numbers stay down is because they come through NM to get the license and then they move on to other states. The license helps them get around without suspicion (or at least with less). It also helps them get jobs, housing, etc. If they are here illegally they are breaking the law. No matter what else they are doing, it is in the process of committing a crime.

Then insurance cos. do report by law and the MVD requires proof of insurance on all vehicles. That is just the way it works. I invite you to cancel insurance on any registered vehicle and find out for yourself. It takes a month or so but they will pull your registration if you dont comply. Your assertion that they can just cancel and get by with it is false.
BTW, illegals comply with insurance at almost exactly the same rate as native New Mexicans do. Poorly. And for the same reasons! They have ourchased an automobile.
I am not sure what you are asking about illegals becoming citizens. I somehow think that we both know how that works, dont we? My statement was that those with licenses and insurance are trying to be responsible and be good citizens. We are targeting them instead of the deadbeats that dont bother with licenses and insurance.
i got a notice in the mail around January of 2010 that my dads registration had expired in June of 2009 on his my dad died in may of 2006. if someone can keep the registeration up on a truck that belonged to a dead man for 3 years so yes you can cancel the insurance and keep the registration.

No. No circles. Just the plain truth. You have to be insured to drive or you get caught, sooner or later. The poster asserts that you dont in some cases. That is false.
Nothing circular about it.
And as far as illegals trying to be good citizens some do. The ones that comply with our insurance laws and get licences are trying. Nothing circular about that either. We are targeting them instead of the ones that dont bother to get insurance or licenses.
Is that difficult for you to understand?
"And as far as illegals trying to be good citizens some do." you hear yourself? How can an illegal be a good citizen before they even become a legal resident? Do you have any concept of the i d i o c y thats dribbling off your chin?

As a liberal, I don't believe illegals should be able to get a State's drivers license. There is a license called an International Drivers license. A person wanting to drive in another country, can get an International Drivers license to drive legally in that country.

Do you really not see what I am driving at or do you want to argue semantics over my use of the word "citizen"?
You are avoiding the point by picking on my use of words. The issue at hand is driver's licenses. The mexicans that get licenses are at least trying to comply with our laws. We dont seem to be hassling the ones who piss on our laws. Only the ones that want to comply.
Get it?
I'm not arguing semantics. I'm taking extreme exception to your use of the word "citizen" to mischaracterize the status of an "illegal alien" and the i d i o t i c BS that you want spew about "hasseling" only "mexicans" that are trying to comply with our laws while ignoring the "mexicans" that piss on them. You, and everyone of those worthless Dems in SF that voted against the Nunez bill know D a m n well that a drivers license helps to establish legitimacy of residence. No one is saying that someone has to be a citizen to get a DL. Legal residency status is more than acceptable and in my opinion welcome. But you m o r o n i c liberal die hards would rather chew off your own right arm than make an intelligible distinction between "citizen" "legal resident" and "illegal alien"

How are they comitting a crime? The only illegals that are comitting any criminal offense are the ones who actually snuch across the border. Most are simply overstaying a visa or work permit. That is NOT a crime. It is a Civil Infraction.
Dont blame me for pointing this out to you. It is the law of the land. Dont like it? CHANGE IT!
Actually, overstaying a work visa or work permit, is in fact a crime. You might like to call it a "civil infraction", but the fact is; once that visa or permit expires, you are breaking immigration laws. The person in violation can be reported, detained and deported.

Is it as blatant as sneaking across? No, but in the eyes of federal law enforcement, it most certainly is still considered breaking the law.
