Editorial: Southern road to spaceport must be built
We can understand the frustration of some legislators at the request this session for capital outlay money to complete the southern road from Hatch to Spaceport America.

People are only now getting the picture.
The road built from T or C/Engle was only done to appease the locals, and to have a "service" road - all this to sway the vote on increasing Sierra County gross receipts tax.
Now the NEW request to the State to build the road originally planned for as the MAIN entrance down south of Hatch.
T or C hoodwinked again...except Bartoo who made out like bandits - even after doing and redoing the road. And what about that full washout last Fall?

how about you worry about your billion dollar fence before commenting on affairs that do not concern you.
We'll never see more then the inaugural lady gaga rich kid VG fight out of new mexico. Come back in 25 months and tell me I was dead wrong.
They can say what they want, but all testing going out of Mojave is for a reason other then convenience.

Lets wait till there is an operating spaceport.

let's wait until there is enough revenue to cover this next folly, we already paid for an engineering mistake that required a significant runway extension.
Dona Ana wants that road built for some reason..meanwhile we've been paying additional sales tax for YEARS.
Dona Ana will get their money..anybody driving out to the spacepork best have a very full tank of fuel before leaving.

Well, well - the light dawns. T or C - and maybe even the rest of New Mexico - is figuring out they've given billions to the billionaire who sold half the Spaceport to an Arab who also got some our of billions from the poorest state in the Union to build a FOR PROFIT business that they never intended to operate in the first place. T or C hasn't benefited nearly as much as we've put in, meanwhile people living near the Spaceport were driven from their homes when all the water was sucked out of their desert aquifier, killing trees, pasture and crops. I still see land for sale in the area touting how much it will be worth when the spaceport goes into business and making misleading statements about it being in business - when we all know, locally, that the Spaceport has a 20 mile no commercial zone around it and they are threatening eminent domain to get everyone to move out and away from it.
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I'm beginning to wonder why our government paid to create this facility which is now surrounded by secrecy, carefully controlled "tours", and otherwise endeavoring to drive away any humans nearby. It's like a tiny little iron curtain out there.
Meanwhile, those four or five people who do work out there live in Dona Ana county - not T or C and by the way, no rocket scientists building McMansions in T or C yet either (as if)- so yeah, that's why they want that road out there. Dona Ana is smarter and less desperate than T or C and don't want to build the road for the billionaires.
This has all been the biggest, most idiotic farce that it would be hilariously funny if people had not lost their homes over it.
