Ft. Stanton - close to Ruidoso, NM in Lincoln County - has a very interesting and unique history concerning German prisoners who were captured either before 1941 or in the first war years. They lived in a compound at the defunct fort, built their own swimming pool and bowling alley, raised some of their own food, etc.

Found an original FBI poster sent to a Constable in Buckeye Arizona with pictures of two escaped prisoners of war Italians named Giuseppe Del Fabbro and Sirio Bologna in July 4,1944 from a work camp at Fabens! Do you know any other informatiom on the escape? Thanks Gary Reeves in Lewisville, Texas

I was told years ago by MR CASTRO area resident that the camp in Anthony NM held Italian P O Ws . AS they passed by in trucks to do farm labor, the local boys would yell calling them "JERRIES" not knowing the difference, Local girls would smile and the P O Ws would smile, wave etc.. Some of the camp bldgs were reused for a school in this small Mexican/American Town.
