As long as the locals can just come in and pay the bills...that's the bottom line. The magazine is geared toward the upscale market out of state, Bizcochito.

So don't worry about inclusion so much and concentrate on your tortillas. New Mexico Magazine has been around for a lot longer than you and knows what to do.

The list has always been about advertising and not a true list of quality, so no need to rush anywhere ASAP.

I was a "local" for many years, and I still frequent the NM eateries while in town on business. I don't dispute that some of these "so called" upscale eateries have good eats for us foodies, as I've eaten at 5 on the list. I've also been fortunate enough to indulge in the upscale markets in many states, not bad for a Bizcochito tortilla maker. For a state that boasts, according to AARP, the highest hispanic population per capita at 47% hispanic, inclusion IS a MUST!!

You are correct my friend. As a "Professional Food Critic" I travel all over the world and can tell you that "Advertising" drives the industry. As for good place to eat....look where the pro's do.

You being a professional food critic has nothing to do with the magazine's article. Because there are much more reliable sources that point out better restaurants in SC and Diane's is not even in the top 5.

Agree, agree. If you follow the rag you'll clearly see that "Trish-the-Dish" swallows hook, line and sinker whatever the local tourism people tell her.

I only ate at Diane's once. Maybe they just ran out of flavorful herbs and spices on my visit, but for the price I was charged I was not going back.
The chocolate cake some locals rave about from there, was about the same as a frozen Peppridge farm cake from albertsons, just that a slice at Diane's cost about as much as the whole cake...
Vicky's is better, so is KK...

I love how this forum just turned into a 'Let's bash Diane's' forum. That's awesome... NOT! I have eaten at both Vicky's and KK and neither were any better or worse than Diane's. And for the record, the hatch benedict at Diane's is awesome, and that is what they won for.

scgirl, I've had the pleasure of enjoying some of the fine cafes down around Bullard over the years. I must say, Diane's is probably my favorite. Nothing better than lunch & a day spent shopping in those great little stores then some fudge from Pretty Sweet for the ride home.
