How sad, how come drivers cant look twice? too many people in this small town are in such a hurry to pass or pull out into traffic, I cant count how many times I have encounters with other vehicles pulling out in front of me or not yeilding the right of way to me. We can only do so much to watch for driver in cars and trucks, we can only wear so much safety equipment, please look twice!! RIP fellow rider!!

Eyes bleeding trying to decipher your cryptogram.

Where is MLE to tell me that the helmet would not have saved this kids life?
The writer of the story Stella Davis needs to find a new line of work. "with a pickup at the intersection of Standpipe Road and Boyd Drive." Standpipe and Boyd do not intersect. "Carlsbad Police said 25-year-old Daniel Spoon - who was not wearing a helmet - was travel-ing northbound on " & "Family of the victim said Spoon, who lived on Dona Ana Road, off Standpipe Road, had mar-ried his wife, Shannon, three months ago." & "Radio Boulevard and Stand-pipe Road, said he didn't see the" & "I saw the man on the motorcy-cle lying on the west side of the road" & "morning traffic has in-creased tremendously" & "Nobody slows down on this road," Her-nandez said" See a pattern? I think her "-" key is getting stuck,...along with the comma key apparently.

Helmet, helmet, helmet. It's not about YOU,...it's about the ones you leave behind! That's the lesson here,...very very sad to see a young life extinguished so early.
And once again

Here is a horrible connection...Daniel lived on the same name road that the man who killed him lives in.

You have to be starting your BS. Obviously you are just stuck on the head of a person who rides and not the rest of their body. I have read stories where the person had a helmet and had internal injuries. Of course when you hit the object your organs slam against the body and you have no idea what could have happened inside of the person either. I do not have all of the details like I had on Lila. I am sure I will sooner or later. You are so stuck on a helmet when riding, so, perhaps that is due to you needing one on the short bus.

Oh yeah, be sure to wear that helmet that my prevent death, but break the neck for C5 or C6 is quadra. break C1 to C3 and that is not breathing on own. But yeah, become paralized and live all because that helmet was worn, making the victim live a life of immune system break down, infections, skin-bone wounds, atrophy, vented, in crease chance of pneumonia, living in a body that cant move and in hell on earth. Good one!! Whatever you want to think go ahead.

A helmet would not have saved his life, going to fast.

The problem is a bike cannot do all that much on a left turn in front of you, when you are too close or going too fast.

The person at fault is the truck driver for not yielding.

I've never worn a helmet when riding and I've been riding since I was 16 and that's 8 years without an accident, but then there's always a first time. I don't like being told that I have to wear a helmet; helmets restrict my view of the road, but if they make it the law then so be it!

Monte did not get away with murder for he did not kill anyone. How about you get the facts as to what all happened?
So, if the driver is charged, are you going to let the public see your left nut get chopped off IF you even have a left nut?

It's not a matter of if you have an accident, but a matter of when you do.

Wow,..so many people misread my comments.

I agree that it should be your choice to wear a helmet. However as a responsible adult with people who care for and depend on you I also believe that your responsibility to them comes before your need to feel the wind in your hair.

C5 C746 it does not matter,..EVERY study has proved that wearing a helmet,...just as wearing a seatbelt reduces the odds of a serious injury or death in an accident. It is FACT!

And of course someone else had to comment that "A helmet would not have saved his life, going to fast." Apparently Carlsbad is the foremost area to live for the worlds greatest forensic experts,...this one happened to be on scene and was able to within minutes of the crash determine this to be the case.

On a side note let me throw a little scenario at you.

You are driving down the road and suddenly become distracted,...in that moment you happen to clip a motorcyclist wearing a helmet,...motorcyclist slides into the ditch,..gets up,..and is pissed that you just totalled his bike but thankful he was wearing his helmet. You get a ticket for careless driving,..and your insurance forks out the money for him a new bike.

Same scenario sans helmet. Motorcyclist is dead in the ditch,...you are charged with an convicted of vehicular manslaughter,...anyone see how quickly that gets out of hand? And don't say it would not happen,...everyone has seen DA's run with a whole lot less.

BTW,..I speak from experience,..I have a family member who went down on his bike doing less than 35mph,..no helmet. This was 4 years ago,..he has just recently started walking again,...he can't remember half of his life and now has a permanent speech impediment. His family has to take care of him,..a grown man,..because his ADULT decision was to not wear a helmet.

So your argument for NOT wearing a helmet is that wearing one while potentially saving your life seems to have an incredibly small chance of also making you a quadraplegic?

By that thinking you should make sure that your kids do NOT buckle their seatbelts in the car MLE,...as those seatbelts have on occasion cost someone their life. You are a nurse? Do you tell someone not to take their medication because a small sampling of people have had a side effect? I am trying to figure out if you are dumb or just evil.
