Time to oust EPE. Profit over infrastructure improvement and the customer always loses.

I wonder if the city officials (mayor, councilors, city manager) even notice the electricity problems that occur here? They seem to be just fine with the current situation - one that leaves our citizens and businesses with an unreliable source of electric power.

I've been told by one councilor that there's no point in looking into the issue because we are contractually bound to EP Electric. But this doesn't prevent us from planning for the future. I'm sure there are at least a couple of options that would allow the city and country a secondary source, a backup supplier of power.

Back in the mid-1990's, during the summer, Las Cruces was entirely without power for more than a day. It was triggered by a minor incident, as I recall. It took out our water well, however, and this expense was not recoverable thru insurance. How do you think the city would react this summer if we were to be without power again for an entire day or longer?

Of course Las Cruces government has a contract with El Paso Electric. Where to you think campaign contributions come from? What about the rural communities in Dona Ana county? Truth or Consequenses in Sierra county have an electric co-op. Otero county has a co-op. We in Dona Ana could do it also. How about it Dona Ana county commissioners? It needs to start with you.
Just wondering

Last time the franchise agreement expired we tried getting rid of EPE to create a municipal electric utility. However, the EPE lawyers won. Now that they know they can win, we will never get rid of EPE.

Goes back once again to a lack of maintenance by EPE of their own power plants/grids..... Preventative maintenance goes a long way EPE!!!

Great, I guess this means another $100K bonus for EPE's CEO. or will it be less because it's just one small blackout instead of three days? exactley how does EPE calculate his bonuses? Sorry, it's probably based on rate increases...
well then

Only way to do that is to go solar or wind on your personal property. LC is contractually bound to EPE, unfortunately. As we've seen, any type of monopoly is a problem. The only way to not be a part of it is to go off the grid, if you can afford to do so.

BTW...it takes very little effort to file a complaint with the PRC. Less than on this rag's page. when we all sat in teh dark in Febuary only two people filed complaints. With that kind of uproar get used to the substandard, overpriced service. or do something about it....

A loose wire?

That's nothing that a 20% rate increase "request" by Enron Jr. won't temporarily cure.

Read about the 'loose wire' thing after my earlier post. This is not acceptable, and confirms the poor maintenance record we have seen the results of this year. I will definitely be following up with my city councilor, the mayor, the city manager, and the PRC as has been recommended by another excellent posting today.

Las Cruces will remain a third-rate city if it cannot guarantee businesses a reliable electric supply.

I hope the Spaceport isn't relying on EPE for its power.

The CEO of EPE should be told to return his 'bonus'...

The spaceport is using Sierra Electric Co-op. Also some on-site solar is being investigated, I believe.
