"He faced charges of robbery with a deadly weapon and concealing his identity during the investigation. He was also wanted on a New Mexico Department of Corrections warrant for failure to comply with conditions of his release, and a Do-a Ana Magistrate Court warrant for kidnapping, aggravated battery on a household member, child abuse, aggravated assault on a household member, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, aggravated stalking and interference with communications."

Seems to me that he probably would have done the better part of 20 years in prison...saved tax payers some money...harsh as that might seem the only people i might pity would be his family...

Somebody at the jail needs to lose their job for not watching what goes on. It's not easy to hang yourself, let alone while in custody. Why is the sheriffs' department investigating itself? Isn't that a conflict of interest? Shouldn't an outside agency be the lead in the investigation?

You raised a good point;

Okay Alamogordo, after reading what I have to say, you can come at me with everything you have and I can garantee I will NEVER change my stance about what I have to say.

I will make this short -- after I left Alamo in 1986 and headed to the big city -- I was in an armed robbery in 1988. This crack head put a gun to the right side of my head and said "don't move B----!!!" After he took the gun off of me, he started pointing and yelling at others. He got the money and was out the door. TWO days later, crack head robbed again and he shot a man during the robbery.

Crack head finally got caught, he made "deals" with the then D.A. and who knows what he may be doing today.

My point....and I do have one...What about the VICTIMS??? It's been 20 years now since this happended...I think about it everyday.

And for those who are trying to blame the jail...you should be Thanking the jail that they had this man locked up and the only thing that changed when he felt like hurting someone, was the fact that he was free to take it out on himself. He was not able to prey upon another person.

That said, may God be with the victims and all that are affected.

At least now we won't have to pay for his defense or his housing and feeding. This is a little bit of a relief to the taxpayers that are still paying for all the other convicts.
Sorry for his family. Though now he won't be hurting anyone else.

Heartless people! He may have been terrible person, but he was still a person. God made him, too.

So typical Alamogordo. Friendliest Place on Earth, yeah right! Filled with good Christian hypocrites who love to see other fall from "grace". Makes them feel so much better about themselves.

An investigation into the way this jail is run is long overdue. Maybe some good will come of this tragedy (and yes all SUICIDES if that's really was what this was is tragic).

Remember people criminals have loved ones too. People make wrong choices and some do really bad things but they are still humans and deserve better than the vile comments posted here.

This young man ended on the wrong side of the track. For all you senseless cold-hearted responders, nobody wins in this situation. Have you ever wondered/considered how he ended up this way or do you care, after all he is son, father, and friend? What about this society?

No information on suicides at the jail?!?!?
You can't have a "policy" of not releasing information on suicides at the jail. What kind of a law skirting nimwit are you? It's public information. It doesn't matter what kind of magical "policy" you want to pull out of you know where.

A simple answer to this.... information is not release during an ongoing investigation. Assume and speculate all you want.

It is unfortunate, but suicides happen in detention facilities all over the U.S. all the time. Otero County is no different. And nobody ever knows what causes an individual to do the things they might do if the circumstances seem dire enough.

This is not the first time at the Otero County Detention Center someone in custody has taken his/her own life. Two or three other incidents come to mind.

Finally, why does the general public need/want all the details of an event to come out? There will be an investigation and a report, no doubt. The details may be withheld not because of an ongoing investigation, but to spare the family and friends additional heartache. If you lost a family member to a suicide - regardless of the reason or the locale - would you want the details shared with an entire community? I think not.

Not commenting or releasing info on a pending investigation: I respect that and it's a valid reason. You'll get no argument from me.
But a "policy" on not releasing information on suicides at the jail? That's totally different. Apples and oranges.
And finally, not releasing info out of consideration for the family is not a valid legal reason to withhold information.

Theoretically I would hope I would have the capacity to forgive. I would hope I would have the capacity for compassion if this sick (one who commits suicide is sick, they have an illness!) individual who committed suicide. His taking of his own life would not give me back my money or my loved one. If it were someone who killed someone I loved then him/her talking his own life would give me no closure. I would have more questions that the ONLY person who could answer could no longer answer.

Maybe if something like this did happen to me my heart would be so cold and I would cheer over their demise. I just hope I would find the strength not to be so hate filled.

Maybe the sheriff's department is investigating because it is, after all, the OTERO COUNTY Detention Center, over which the OTERO COUNTY Sheriff's Department has jurisdiction to investigate.

>>>>>Robbery suspect. SUSPECT!!!

Wow, this guy really had alot on his heart to burden the tax payers of Otero county and New Mexico with his self inflicted death. You know, autopsy, transportation, inquiry, etc....$$$$$$

Next, he'll burden his family with his funeral.

And then some really wicked details of his life come to light, and no one will find out because of the shame. But,....there will be a news leak to the press .....>>>>>

Sounds like a bad movie of the week.
